I’m not sure I can give this book a rating…. A very heartbreaking story

Although The Butcher's Wife was written in the 1980s and the story it was based upon occurred in the 1930s, it is still relevant to today's time (eg. the Lorena Bobbet case): Marital abuse and sexism continue to occur to women in the 21st century, and in some states in the U.S., it is legal to have intermarital nonconsensual intercourse. I find it astonishing and courageous that a book like this one was able to be published, but stories like these need to be told—Kodus to Li Ang!

A brutal and unforgiving feminist horror. This book is a powerful criticism of traditional power structures, and does not shy away from the horrific reality of everyday violence against women. Unsettling and graphic material, but beautifully written. This is definitely not a book for younger readers.
