This cute story had me laughing and smiling throughout the entire book. McKenna faces challenges in the dating world I know every woman has experienced and instantly gives the reader a sense of recognition and familiarity. My only issue with this was the insta-love feel. I only wish true relationships happened this quickly. And then the author threw in the obnoxious ex which just seemed to be a filler.

This book wins for awesome dialogue and a strong female lead. Holla for women taking their sexuality by the horns and owning it.

Trophy Husband Audiobook by Lauren Blakely, Narrated by  Samara Naeymi
Part of a standalone series
Sweet sexy and steamy! Trophy Husband by Lauren Blakely was sitting in my audible library for some time, and now that I have to listen to more books, I figured it was time to start it. I’m so glad I did! At just under six hours, this was a pretty short audible book, and it really hit the spot.

McKenna Bell is a fashion blogger/webshow host living in New York City. I loved her, she reminded me of so many of my friends. Down to earth, a little retro, spunky, and just…relatable. McKenna's fiancé left her the day before their wedding for a younger gymnast and married her quickly. She was still happy…until she ran into the couple, and saw this younger, prettier girl living the life she was supposed to lead.

So McKenna decided she wanted a trophy husband. If the guys can do it, why can’t she? There would be only a few rules:
1-He must be younger.
2-He needs to be HOT.
3-He has to have the perfect body, no fat anywhere.
4-He can’t have a good career, he needs to be a “kept” man after all.
QUOTE MARKIs that so much to ask for? Love, and a talented mouth?"

With the help of her friends (who I also enjoyed), McKenna introduces the contest on her video blog. It really took off when it was picked up by Chris, who runs a super popular gamer/geek video blog show.

Ahhhh, Chris. Tall, dark, handsome, sexy, funny, a total geek, and very successful. Unfortunately, he is not trophy husband material. He has hot and no body fat down pat, but he is older than McKenna, and has a super successful career.

But as they discuss cross-promotions, things heat up, and the trophy husband contest rules are bent a bit. McKenna still dates other candidates, and the dates were fun to hear about, especially “Steely Dan Duran”. But nobody measured up to Chris.
QUOTE MARKThe real reason I agreed to do your contest wasn't to promote my show. I couldn't care less. I did it because I wanted to be in the running. I want to be the only one in the running. I want you.”

But freaking McKenna can’t let go of her stupid contest!

Likes:
•They were both geeky.
•I really liked both main characters.
•Quick, easy, fun, sassy book.
•Sexy times.
•I enjoyed all the characters, including the friends and the dates.
•Unique storyline.
•I liked the narrator, she seemed very normal, and great for a New Yorker.
•Chris….sigh…

Dislikes:
•McKenna had a lot of inner thoughts she didn’t act on.
•She let it go on way too long.

Rating: 4-4.25 stars, 4 Heat

The Down & Dirty:
Trophy Husband was a fun, sweet and sexy read. It felt like chick-lit, despite the romance. It just had the light, sassy feel. It was a quick listen despite it being a full length book, and I really enjoyed the narrator. This is third in a series, and I had no idea until writing this review, so it totally stands alone. I laughed, giggled, swooned, and walked my dog listening to this with a big goofy smile on my face.

This one was really hard to get through. Set it aside several times and wasn't sure I'd finish. It wasn't any one thing, just sometimes you don't click with the characters.

For some reason I thought this book was NA and was going to follow the usual formula broken girl + bad boy + major angst = eventual HEA. I'm so glad that I was wrong. This totally ended up being more Chick-lit/contemporary romance. Oh and did I mention it was funny and geeky and..and...and I LOVED it!!
McKenna is funny and strong and still believes in love despite the way her asshat of a fiancé dumped her. Chris is a gamer and a geek of all trades.

"You know something about those fries?"
"What about those fries, Chris?"
"I will eat them in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train. And in a car. And in a tree"
"They are so good, so good, you see."

Ahhhh. I love a well-read, clever man. Haha!! He's also patient but not a push-over and isn't afraid to go after what he wants and make no exceptions for anything less.
McKenna's plan for a Trophy Husband is brilliant! What woman in her right mind wouldn't love the opportunity to date a group of hot, young men?

"Focus on his biceps, his belly, his pecs. Focus on anything other than what's coming out of his mouth. A good body can cover up a lot of flaws."

Seriously this book had me laughing and swooning. The perfect combination for any book. Go get this one, you won't regret it!

Review of eARC

McKenna Bell is a young, successful woman. She is happily planning her wedding when her fiancé dumps her, by voicemail, and marries someone else, the day before the planned wedding!

Following an impromptu meeting with her ex, and his new younger wife, McKenna decides to play the field more, in a different way than usual. She decides she can play the same game men do - she can find herself a younger, sexier man to be her Trophy Husband.

Together with her female friends she comes up with a plan. She will use her successful fashion blog to post videos about her dates, her clothes choices, everything. She will allow the viewers to become part of her quest to find love, to find a man who wants to become a kept man.

What she doesn't count on is meeting a kindred spirit, Chris, in a games shop. He turns out to be as much of a games geek as she is. But he is counted out of the race from the start by his age. McKenna and her friends agreed that any potential candidates must be 23 years of age or younger.

McKenna comes up with a plan, a business plan, which will benefit both her and Chris. But can they keep it purely business? In her quest for a Trophy Husband has she, in fact, found her ideal partner? Or will her loyalty to her friends and their agreement force her to bypass her own happiness and follow through in her quest?

This is a lovely story with a lot of humour in it. The way she describes the dates McKenna goes on is hilarious at times. Yet it also has a lot of affection, as well as sexiness, in it when she describes McKenna and Chris' later dates. The author definitely pulled me into the storyline, wishing that McKenna would do what she wanted, what would make her happy, rather than follow what her friends wanted her to do.

All in all a great story with equal measures of humour and sexiness which combined make it work really well.

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*

When McKenna’s fiance leaves her for a younger woman, McKenna is determined to move on and find her own ‘Trophy Husband’. With her list of requirements and her friends helping her out, McKenna’s quest for the ‘perfect’ man is sidelined by Chris. Chris is the epitome of a sexy geek. While they become friends and business partners they chemistry between them ignites, but is it enough to negate McKenna’s requirements?

Trophy Husband was the perfect book for me at the perfect time. On a personal note I am going through my own breakup so it was lovely to read about a successful, empowered woman making the best out of a horrible situation. So many books now-a-days have a woman pining over a douchebag and frankly, I am tired of it. McKenna owned the situation. It didn’t ease the sting of betrayal but she refused to lay down and die because of what happened to her.

and Chris…

he is sexy and geeky and a MAN. I loved their interactions and banter and the steam between them almost melted my kindle.

If you are looking for a refreshing, sexy, ‘you-go-girl!’ type book, Trophy Husband is for you!

Just couldn’t

I just couldn’t get into this book. The objectification was too much, too crude, shallow, and I often found myself rolling my eyes or feeling annoyed. The story is well written and the characters are well done. It’s just not my cup of tea, I guess. I’ve read other books by this author and liked her work very much then.

It's been a year since McKenna's ex-fiance left her the night before their wedding for another woman. Burnt by love before, McKenna is content to be independent and self-sufficient. Until her ex shows back up in town - with his wife and their perfect life that should have been hers. It's then she decides that if her ex can have his trophy wife, she can have a trophy husband. With her best girlfriends on board, she sets out to turn her fashion vlog into a homebrew season of The Bachelorette (minus the love, of course). Along the way, she meets Chris. He's California surfer sexy and the perfect candidate for some arm candy. But he's also intelligent and successful and makes McKenna feel all the things she's scared to feel again.

This was a solid three-star book for me - quick, fluffy, and entertaining but nothing mind-blowingly new or exciting.

One thing I did like about this book was that, true to the characters, there was not a lot of physical intimacy until the end of this book. Sometimes the insta-lust trope gets really old, so it was a refreshing change of pace to have two characters that didn't just want to jump each other right away. If you like a good amount of smut in your books, don't let that turn you off because McKenna is pretty much the queen of sexual fantasies and there are plenty of them.

I do have one thing I really didn't like about this book - there were no Chris POV chapters. I honestly can't think of another genre romance that didn't have both characters POVs and I think seeing things from both sides and seeing them both fall in love before they (singly and collectively) realize is the basis of good emotional tension in the genre, so this was a let down for me. It also means that we don't know much about Chris, he felt more like a minor character and that makes no sense in romance-land.

Overall though I was entertained by this novel and would consider reading more from Lauren Blakely one day sometime in the future.
