Introducing teen Alice and Thomas Price. I love Thomas's overall attitude of "it's a stupid order, so I'm gonna ignore it."

The Way Home is another short story in the InCryptid universe (by Seanan McGuire). If you want to learn more about the Price family, these shorts are the way to go! As for this set, it follows Alice Healy-Price.

Alice Healy-Price has always been known for being a bit of a rebel. Most fans know her for her drastic and decade-long quest to find her missing husband. But even before this point, she had a way of fighting back.

This story is set when Alice is only sixteen years old. You want to read the other shorts in order, as it adds valuable context to the situation she's currently in. This is one of many adventures while Alice sneaks around behind her father's back.

To put it simply – this was a fun short. Dark, but fun! In truth, you could probably sum up most of Alice's stories in such a manner.

The beginning of Alice and Thomas. Cute book and for once not dark. :)

It is hard to see Johnny as he is now. :( Thomas is not at all what I expected, but Alice totally is. Looking forward to seeing their adventures in the next two short stories.

I'd like to say that in the wake of agony caused by the last two extras, THE WAY HOME was fresh and bright start . . . and I guess it was, in part. It was lovely to see a sixteen-year-old Alice, so reminiscent of her mother, BUT . . . any relief I felt on being reintroduced to a healthy, happy, fearless Alice was nullified by scared, bitter man Jonathan had become in Fran's absence.

It burns us, precious.

This short story (indeed, there are more to come, but after the third book in the series 'Half-off Ragnarok') focuses on Alice when she first meets Thomas Price, the man who will forsake the Covenant in favor for the Healy's.

I was a bit surprised to read that Thomas was already on the verge of deserting even before he met Alice and was sent to America in the first place as a punishment of some sort. Stupid move from the Covenant of course, as apparently they never heard the saying that you should keep your friends close, but your (soon to be) enemies closer still.

It was short and nice to read, but it didn't really feel like a complete story and I would have liked it to be slightly longer.

"Probably gonna die out here."

Thomas Price comes to investigate the Healys for the Covenant. Are they harmless or do they need to be wiped out? Between his indecision about whether all cryptids are monsters and Alice's determination to prove that she will always be a Healy, things are about to get interesting.
