i’m biased as maya angelou is my favorite poet and an inspiration. i loved this book, even down to the old pages and dated book pocket in my copy from the library. i adore her use of line breaks and repetition as storytelling elements. i feel as though the tone is also illustrated really well through these same elements. like most poetry books, it is fast paced, but i feel like i could benefit from annotations [if i owned this copy] so that i could really sit with the book and gain a deeper understanding.

Maya Angelou, so excellent as can be expected, but this collection felt a little too heterosexual for my tastes.
