Great content, content needed a lot of explanation. It led to great discussion with my first grader but it wasn't a book she could have read or understood all of on her own.

"Whenever Henrietta saw a need, she organized and worked until she made a difference."

Churnin and Nayberg work together to create a beautiful book about Henrietta Szold, an activist who created a night school and a charity, who was the first editor for The Jewish Publication Society, and who raised thousands of dollars to help Jewish children escape from Hitler Germany. Churnin spares fluff and focuses exclusively on the facts, and Nayberg's illustrations are both beautifully arresting and haunting. Paired together, they have successfully created a book that does justice to Szold and will continue teaching children of her legacy.

It never occurred to me that someone could live from US Civil War to WWII.
