Trigger warning:  rape is part of the story as a torture devise by the baddies.  It's not a constant, but it is mentioned several times.

Pace a bit uneven - at times, the story progressed apace but at others it seemed to drag.   The author is telling a vast story arc through the eyes of several integral characters, intermingled with the lore of the world.  Book 2 (and 3, looks like) is over 700 e-pages!

Worth the read of the trilogy if you enjoy epic fantasy.

Bloodmark by Jean Lowe Carlson is book two in The Kingsmen Chronicles and all I can say is...WOW! This story starts off right where the first left off and hits the ground running. War is coming. The pawns have been put in place and now the masters have begun to make their moves. Evil hides in the shadows but as the days grow darker it grows bolder. The characters continue to grow, develop and surprise us at every turn. This book is so hard to put down. I was totally engaged from start to finish. For me, this book was better than the first. I couldn't get enough.
I absolutely loved the characters that we get back with this story, and the new characters and creatures that we get as well. I literally was freaking out. The author does such a fantastic job with this story. We get so much information from such unique characters! I loved the origin story of the tribes, and the various revelations that we get in this book. I freaked out more than once because that's how excited I was. Plus, as an avid cat-lover when Elohl has his scene with the big cats I geeked out to the moon and back. I was absolutely jealous of him and wish that I could have been in that scene!
If you enjoyed the first book in this series I cannot stress enough that you should pick this book up. It is totally worth it! This is a great epic fantasy novel that I look forward to reading more and even rereading again in the future! I can't get enough of these characters and will be begging for more of them! I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. Absolutely loved!
