Some nice recipes in here (be brave, some of the cake batter is very wet) that bake really well and evenly without reliance upon raising agents too much. There are, basically, four recipes in this book: vanilla sponge, chocolate sponge, brownies and cookies and then just pop down to the chocolate section of the supermarket and lob some Creme Eggs on there or some Mars bars and that makes another recipe. The technique section is excellent, with some clear instructions on how to do piping and smoothing of cakes.

The problems arise from the formatting. This is like a choose-your-own adventure cook book with recipes referring to one section of the book with different amounts and sometimes wrong recipes (I'm looking at you, Chocolate Fudge Cake). In one recipe I was referred three times (like a dream within a dream) and ended up just making it up with approx measurements. In the end [b:The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook|6409162|The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook|Tarek Malouf|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348822220l/6409162._SX50_.jpg|6598089] is much better and I ended up referring to that. Shame, as there are some good ideas in here.
