how beautifully does Elena Ferrante write. i would have read it again and again just for the beautiful writing. Slightly slow-paced and boring in the first five chapters but later on, i was hooked.

Was drawn to this story, hoping to glimpse into the realities of life for a young Italian person during this time period and location, exactly when/where my grandfather also grew up. Elena's inner dialogue, her obsession with Lina, the experiences of everyone around them, gave me the feel I was hoping for, although dark at time, still rang true to the expected realities of the time. I can't wait to delve into the rest of the quartet later!
