The Great Unknown is an anthology of strange short fiction by Australian authors. I was expecting to get lost in seriously quirky mindscapes in this anthology, but very few of the contributions actually took me there. The overall quality of the writing is good, and there are examples of exceptional prose, but there are also a lot of weak and unoriginal plots, as well as stories that build up and then end with neither a conclusion nor a mysterious loose end. The notable contributions to this anthology in terms of weirdness and plot are Reality TV by Paddy O'Brien, A Void by Guy Salvidge, Art by Damon Young, and Sticks and Stones by Ryan O'Neill.
