admittedly, I'm biased because this was my favorite series as a kid that I'm now rereading as an adult, but I'm still struck by how well this series handles complicated, heavy, real-world problems in a way that, not only brings light and hope, but communicates effectively with its young target audience. I absolutely grew into a better person because of reading these books.
