I usually like P.D. James, but this book didn't grab my interest. It felt like she tried to drag the mystery out too much and that resulted in a lack of suspense.

A little long, but James writes a great mystery.

I don't read much detective fiction, but this was the Guardian Book Club selection for August, for some reason. I didn't really connect with it: the characters are too flat, as with all detective novels, the plot unfolds too predictably. I wonder if in real life, murderers always want to tell their story, giving the police time to arrive and arrest them. Then I wonder if they now do that because they've seen it so much on TV and film.

Not very exciting, did not keep my attention until the end and I am not entirely sure why I suffered through it- perhaps due to the author's reputation. Not a horrible book, but would not recommend.

Adam Dagleighes finally had built a team, it will be interesting if they stay with him in the next book.  It feels like he doesn't agree, shouldn't be be in his 50-60s now? The murder still never made sense.

Another slow paced book in the typical P D James style
It all starts when a Ministwr ( immediately after his resignation) is found dead Ina church, along with a vagabond, both with their throats cut . Whrhrt it's homicide or suicide is difficult to tell at first glance, and the mystery deepens as Adam Dalgleish and his team sigs deeper into murky secrets
