I liked this one, but not as much as many of you. I'm not sure why. This should have been a book I loved, but I had a hard time connecting with it.

Another grade school favorite I forgot about. Probably my favorite one that I was taught in elementary school and it was taught by the first teacher who inspired me to write, write, write. I read it again in 8th grade from a choice of five other books and, knowing I'd read this book before, I chose it so I didn't have to do as much reading; I certainly didn't know I was going to end up rereading the whole thing anyway...twice.

This was all the rage growing up; everyone in my school read it. I remember there was a waiting list for taking it out of the library. A lovely, sad story. Something to read right on the edge of childhood, reluctantly going forward. I must have re-read this every summer for about 4 years. Bits of the story stand out- moments of humour and sadness, little intimate details from the characters lives. The grandparents and their marriage bed; the mother kissing trees. One to consider passing onto the young children in my family as they get older.

I read this book some time ago, so I can say the specifics about it but it has a pretty good plot.
I recommend it for 12 and up.
