The main draw of this book is the descriptions of Venitian life, which are lovingly detailed. The family meals, the walks, the pubs, and the concerns of tourism and corruption all offer a sincere look into what it is like to live in Italy, The mystery itself feels more like an afterthought, a way for the character to discuss what his life is like.

Agree with the person who said it finished so abruptly she thought her e-copy had missed downloading the end - I have a hardback copy and I feel it's missing a chapter. You find out who did it and that there's the evidence they needed, but nothing about starting to arrest him or wrapping it up with thoughts on people.

Wordy and a bit meh. A slow start but then I got a bit more into it and the setting in Venice is of course lovely, but all in all it was just not for me. Favourite character: Paola

I was given this book by a family member who thought I would enjoy it because of its setting in Venice. While I did enjoy its setting, that was the only thing I did enjoy. The pacing was extremely slow, and perhaps because I have never read any other books in this series, I couldn’t connect to any of the main characters. I was maybe 20 pages from the end of the book and found that I didn’t even care who committed the crime.
