4.11 AVERAGE

Not as good as the other Sherlock books, in my opinion. Things are starting to get repetitive. The mysteries are always about a stolen document, or a foreigner who moves to escape his past and it inevitably catches up to him, or something along those lines. The love stories are cringe worthy, since they are usually about a damsel in distress who can't do anything except cry or faint. I'm also getting pretty annoyed that: a) every single woman character is either described as the most beautiful woman in all of London, or incredibly ugly (gee Doyle, there are such things as average women); b)the police are INCREDIBLY stupid in every story; and mostly c) NO ONE IS EVER HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS!! This one pisses me off the most. Oh, you just killed two people? Well, you meant well, so I won't tell anyone. What ever happened to justice?

Okay, with all that being said, I still liked the book. Short little mysteries that keep me engaged even if they are getting slightly annoying.

This was a good classic book a series of short stories each with their own individual plots and own individual plot twists which was the main mechanism – each of the stories was relying upon for its pulp buff. They were brilliantly executed and all of them were interesting stories by themselves they were all memorable with each Individual twist. I think I may have enjoyed a longer Sherlock Holmes story one of the novels rather than the short stories. I think it would give more of an opportunity to develop the character of Sherlock Watson but most of all to give Creedence and worldbuilding to the villain of each of the stories as opposed to the introduction of the villain and maximum 10 pages later, the solving of the crime and the villain being dispatched in somewaybut overall very interesting to read one of the classics and I would recommend it as a series of easy reads to most people

i do not think i can find words that describe how much i adore the sherlock holmes series, even though it does not have a writing style that stands out or a unique set of characters. i simply do not think i am able of doing so. i do not have anything specific to say about this specific book, but i like the moments where sherlock acted human, unlike his usual manner. i also quite enjoyed the story about augstus milverton, and i found the difference between the original version and the yuukoku no moriarty (moriaty the patriot) version quite interesting. i actually find the difference in characters between those two generally quite intriguing. anyhow, i still love this book and this series as a whole (even though i read it in the wrong order.)

i adore this collection. in all honesty, i adore all stories about sherlock holmes. i don't really have anything in particular to say about this specific volume, aside from how much i really admire holmes' and watson's reunion, and that it was the perfect amount of dramatic for the two of them. i just, generally, really like how they're both written and i like their relationship a lot. they're both such remarkable and brilliant characters; i just simply love them so much. re-reading this just reminded me of how much i love them, and how much i love this wonderful, mystical universe.

Another lovely collection of Holmes stories. The Return is not quite as engaging as the Adventures or the Memoirs---I have to agree with the claim that the later stories are not quite as good as the earlier ones. That being said, they were still fun, and well worth a few minutes before nodding off at night.
