Overall a very good story and the beginning to an awesome series. Can’t wait for Forever, book two in this series coming soon and I sincerely hope that the series continues for a while like the Nightwalkers series did. Another hit Jackie! Just keep ‘em coming.

This was a fun paranormal that jumped back to some of the earlier Jacquelyn Frank stories that I love. Docia’s life changes in an instant when she is run off the road. But will this new life post-accident look anything like her old life? She’s introduced to Ram, a soldier who thinks that Docia is the new incarnation of his fallen queen. But Ram is only supposed to be protecting Docia until his king is also reincarnated, not falling for her himself. Can these two fight the attraction they feel while helping to bring the Bodywalkers back to this new world? I did have some confusion in the story because they were people inside of other people (the story explains better than I do) but overall it was a good introduction to a new series so I’m excited for what comes next to help build and develop from here.

I’ve been a fan of Jacquelyn Frank for some time. I loved her Nightwalkers series. The intermingling of old paranormal creatures and new ones made for interesting, fun, sexy reads. In Forbidden, Frank’s newest series you begin with what promises to be a future melding of the two series. She gives us a new species of nightwalker with the Bodywalkers. At first the book seemed like it would be as good as any in the original Nightwalker series, but quickly that hope became disappointment. Now, I’m not saying I didn’t like Forbidden. I did. It was just a bit busy and predictable. The hero and heroine intended in this story are Docia a sweet little spitfire and Ram the darkly handsome, ancient Bodywalker. I liked the duo, I really did. They weren’t my problem. It was the seemingly endless other storylines mixed in. There must have been a way for Frank to better explain the world we as readers just stepped into. I know she’s capable of this because even with the intermingling of species and storylines in the Nightwalker series I never felt this distracted. I found myself saying, fuck just get to the point and move on.

The story also seemed a bit slow, even though everything transpired over only a few days. Again, I believe this was because, and maybe it’s just me, of too many side stories happening at once. And yet, at the same time the story seemed slow it was full of shit happening. And then it just came to a very predictable end. I’m not one to give spoilers in my reviews, nor do I explain the plot – sorry read what the author tells you about it for that, read my review for my opinion.

So, with that being said. Ram, seemed super hot – totally fuckable. Docia, I dug her. She held her own, she wasn’t whiney or annoying. Everything else - too much! The story of Docia’s brother Jackson (obviously going to be the next in the series) was just a little too expected and unrealistic for me. So I say read the book if you’re a fan of Jacquelyn Frank. It was a good read and the more it went on, the more I liked it. I also think the series has great potential. I really liked the idea behind the Bodywalkers and their abilities. I just think this one needs a bit of tweaking. So if I could give stars I’d say 3.5 maybe a 4. But I would say to give it a try and see for yourself.

I usually buy everything that Franks writes but this one put me off a little while reading the back cover blurb. I hate cheating and I don't want to read about it. Imagine my surprise when the blurb was right and wrong all at the same time. Needless to say, I will be buying the next in the bodywalkers series. Good job Jacquelyn Frank!!

Docia Waverly is just not having a good week. She dies. She comes back to life. She gets attacked. She gets rescued. She gets kidnapped. And now she’s expected to be a queen, who is spoken for, with an incredibly hot and mouth-watering protector that she’s finding hard to resist. What else could possibly happen?

From the moment this story began, I was hooked. Docia was such an amazing character. I found myself liking everything about her, from her relationship with her brother—also freaking amazing—to her quirky and rather entertaining remarks. I actually wished she was real so I could be her friend. I really connected with her and related to her, which is difficult for me to do with characters in books. With everything happening to her, she continued to be by far one of my favorite people in this story. I never once thought of her as annoying or even could find a flaw with her. She sure as hell was a trooper. I don’t think I would have enjoyed this story as much as I did had she been any different.

And seriously, Ram is hazardous to your health. I think I creamed myself the moment he showed up on the page. He is my kind of man: all sexy and protective and understanding and caring and EGYPTIAN! I have a huge thing for Egypt, so the mythology and history and all the sexy desert man-ness had my heart working double time. He was a perfect match for Docia. Not only was he gentle yet respectful of her, but his sense of honor and duty was so strong, I really felt for him. He was incredibly noble and selfless. Hell, he was absolutely perfect. I even fell him.

And I have to put Jackson in here because if I could have a brother, I’d want him to be like Jackson. He was such a fun character in the beginning, and bless his heart—the poor man—continued to be a memorable presence throughout. I wasn’t at all distracted by his side-storyline going on. I actually wanted to read his storyline as well as the main story. He cared so much for his sister, and it really showed, that he did everything in his power to help her. Of course the bombshell Marissa and the equally freaking amazing and squee-worthy Leo were superb accents to him. Honestly, I don’t think there was a bad character. Ms. Frank really made you feel for them all, good or evil.

I really wish I could talk about another aspect of this novel—but spoilers are frowned upon. Alas, you must find this out for yourselves. Sorry!

Although the hanky panky was not as inflaming as some of her other novels, it was still heartfelt and captivating. The entire time I was screaming in my head for them to finally do the deed. I wanted it with every fiber of my being. They had such an amazing connection that I even felt it burning me. I mean, who wouldn’t love some freaking hot-ass Egyptian protector wanting to get down and dirty with them? I know I sure do! I just cannot express how in love I am with Ram, I don’t use that word lightly.

Ms. Frank continues to be a fantastic storyteller. I am absolutely thrilled with this first book and am eagerly awaiting the next installment. A must read.

The books starts with a prologue featuring Kestra, Noah's mate, and Isabella, Jacob's mate, reading a scroll from the Nightwalker library. It refers to twelve Nightwalker nations. So far, they have only six.

And so, in Forbidden, we meet the Bodywalkers. A nation of Nightwalkers who originated in Ancient Egypt, and live through symbiosis.

The biggest problem with this book was the language. Jacquelyn Frank uses a lot of wishy-washy phrases like “kind of” and “sort of” in her narration. It would be fine in dialogue, but in a paragraph of description, it’s annoying as hell. It took around 75 pages for the story to pick up enough for me to stop getting distracted by something that an editor really ought to have fixed before publication.

Once the story picked up though, it was entertaining. I enjoyed the concept of the Bodywalkers and the way that the two souls living within one body maintained a symbiotic and mutually beneficial relationship. The ancient Egyptian soul chooses its host based on personality, and while the two souls become Blended, there is still some distinction and retention of individuality. This can also some kinky romantic implications, and when two Bodywalkers get in a relationship, the author quite aptly describes it as a “menage-a-everybody.”

I received a physical copy of this book from the publishers via the blog host's request in exchange for an honest review and participation in the blog tour.

When I first heard about the World of the Nightwalkers series tour, I was excited to finally read something by Jacquelyn Frank. I had heard wonderful things from various people in my paranormal romance book club and I jumped at the chance. Little did I know that the series was a spin-off of a 6-book series before that. Upon reading the first few pages, I realized I better read the first series if I had any hope of understand this new world and the characters they may be referencing. So I purchased the books from the previous series and started to read. I was hooked, but came to find out quickly that reading the first series was not a necessity, it was simply recommended. The world of the Bodywalkers is much different and fascinating.

In the world of the Bodywalkers, Egyptian souls have the ability of entering one's body when they are close to death. But only if they receive permission from their host. The host is presented a choice. Go into death knowing everything they wished of their lives was fulfilled or share their body with a Bodywalker and gain powers the likes of which they never would have imagined. Docia, after a traumatic experience, was presented with this same option and with her brother, Jackson, weighing heavily on her mind and the thirst for vengeance to those who harmed her clenching her heart, she agreed to the terms. Of course, afterwards she has no memory of the event. So it is increasingly strange when a golden god of a man comes out of nowhere and declares her his queen.

That is enough to unnerve anyone. Docia is left with yet another decision, leave her home with her brother to learn more about this new voice inside her head and the world the handsome stranger talks about, or run away screaming. One look at Ram and any girl would make the same decision Docia did and go with him.

Ram feels some sort of unbelievable draw to Docia. He is not supposed to feel anything but respect for the vessel of his queen. And yet... Ram finds himself toeing the line of a moral dilemma. Follow his heart to Docia or follow his brain and stick to his loyalty to his king and his people.

But that is, of course, not all there is to this story. Ram and his people are at war with a split group of Bodywalkers called Templars. Templars are Bodywalkers who focus more on magic and religion than the laws and rules of the Bodywalker world as Ram's Politic Bodywalkers. The Templars believe ridding themselves of the heinous Politics would being them closer to their deity and nothing will stop them in that pursuit.

Ram and Docia must struggle not just with their mounting attractions for each other but also contend with the war between their people.

To be quite honest, I don't know how I feel about a love story that kind of involves four people. The two original hosts and the two Bodywalker spirits. That seems like two too many people involved, call me old fashioned. Does the concept upset me so much that I can't enjoy the book? No, not at all. But it does make me grimace from time to time. I am a steadfast monogamist and this just seems a little too free and easy for my liking. However, the overall world of the Bodywalkers is incredibly interesting. It's always fun to learn about new Nightwalker races, as I found in the Nightwalker series.

Forbidden is a book that toes the line between quirky kink and sultry everlasting love.
