This is more of a fantasy-romance than a paranormal one, but I'm too lazy to make another shelf. Still with a made-up pantheon of gods and mages, etc running about it was an interesting book. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this one and I was pleasantly surprised. :)

This book felt more like a first time writer’s story, not a first novel in a series by a seasoned writer. The world building was lack luster and the City and Gods the people worshipped sounded made up. Which is odd because a God made a appearance early on and the curse was real. I also felt like 200 years wasn’t enough of a passage of time, aside from the women’s fashions Dethan suffered no culture shock. Selinda was an ok heroine. I felt bad for her because she was in a crappy situation, but I honestly didn’t really care what happened to her. The same for Dethan. I think more time should’ve been spent letting us see him suffer from his curse.

The story dragged on for a while, and then suddenly fast forwarded two months. And the epic battle and confrontations were dull. I never felt a sense of urgency or true danger for any of the characters. And finally the end was a bit to fairy tale like considering the tone of the story. I’m not a fan of this series so far, at all.

*I received a free ARC of Cursed by Fire from Ballantine Books via Netgalley in exchange of an honest and unbiased review*

The overall plot and storyline was quite good, but I found the writing to be stilted, and the characters not fully three dimensional.

Full review to come soon.
