3.5 stars. Very interesting, new (to me) detective. Not as stupid or innocent as he might come across initially, Jim Stringer (and his bicycle) are definitely worth reading, and others in the series worth finding.

This crime thriller grew with excitement and action like a train gradually getting up steam till it's at full speed.
I enjoy these railway detective stories set in the grime and steam of Edwardian times. This is the second Detective Jim Stringer story I have read.
