Every so often, the folks at DC put Superman through the wringer to shake things up a bit in attempts at interesting storytelling/sales boosting. But since he's a corporately-owned marketing icon, the changes never last long, and a story will come along that resets the status quo. This is one of those resets. What separates this one from the pack, though, is that it's actually really good. Co-writers Kurt Busiek & Geoff Johns tell the tale of a Superman regaining his powers after living as plain old Clark Kent (and loving it) for one year, and take us on a tour of the people and places that make up the Man of Steel's world. But instead of just some rote refresher course, they manage to breath some new life into things - new outlooks, new takes on old characters, even a sort of new power - turning the proceedings into a Superman 101 course that's actually worth re-taking.
