I really did not enjoy this storyline. The pace was incredibly slow and overall was not very interesting. The artwork was good to look at to say the least. I would not recommend this one.

I really enjoyed this retelling of A Christmas Carol. I loved the original Dickens but am frequently disappointed by retellings and re-imaginings. They always seem ham-handed and too light-hearted. A Christmas Carol is in fact a very serious story with very real applications and implications. As such, I was initially wary of how Batman as a medium for the story would come across. Surprisingly well! The story is clearly treated with love, respect, and a true understanding of the real essence of the story. I found myself thinking, "of course!" for each of the character choices. I wouldn't have come up with Catwoman as the ghost of Christmas past, but isn't it really the only choice once you think about it? Loved it!

My only criticism is in fact the artwork. While I do think the artwork is beautiful and gripping, there were a few times when I had to quizzically study a page in order to understand what was there because there was simply too much on the page. While many people may enjoy this art style, I myself prefer a slightly less cluttered approach.

It was ok, I really enjoyed the artwork but nothing else stood out to me except things I didn't like which isn't a great thing. My issue was with how the women were used and drawn but that is not relevant to the story. The artwork is stunning and I like seeing Batman having to put up with Constantine. I don't like what they did with the Wayne family and we don't need to see his parents die again. Bats has been around for 80 years, we all know how his parents died and that he saw it. Also Etrigan's occupation was really, really weird. Harley and Zatanna are overly sexualized and Harley really serves no purpose. I also don't like the ending. It's kind of interesting to see Batman out of his element but he also seemed to get nowhere and he's thought to be the "world's greatest detective", so that bit doesn't make much sense.

I avoided this for a long time because of mixed reviews and all of the obnoxious coverage of Batman’s penis, but I also had no idea that it had both Constantine and Swamp Thing in until recently. Maybe it’s because of my love of the Justice League Dark characters (I even liked the movie!). Maybe it’s the fact that I read it after all of the hype around the start of Black Label. Whatever it is, I really enjoyed this. The art is incredible, and it is reason enough alone to at least skim through the book. But I also enjoyed the story well enough. I did find the narration a little trite at times, but the overall mystery and the way the cast gets involved was enough of a good time. I look forward to more.

Exceptional art, nice story idea, but the execution was not great.
