The Goodbye Cat by Hiro Arikawa is a sweet set of stories with cats as a focal point.
Sometimes we don’t really take into account what animals can do for you during rough periods of time, how they are with you for a long time throughout your childhood life, or adult life. They are living beings and they fill every empty space in your heart and in your house. This book details multiple stories regarding cat owners and how they lived with them. We see our lovable cats from Arikawa’s previous story. I think that this book was a cute read to see how cats affected these people’s lives, since cats get a bad rep from the world. This story is an advocate for cats.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants a sweet novel about cats.

I read The Traveling Cat Chronicles last year and was so excited when I heard the author had written another book! The first part is a few short stories about various cats and the second half expands on the stories of Satoru’s two cats from the previous book. I love this author’s style and the way it was translated. It feels very real and relatable. It is sweet and sad in a beautifully honest and heartwarming way.
“If you can make it in time, you want to say goodbye. Want to say thank you, and I love you.”
