Honestly a let down just like Superman Reborn. I love Jurgens' writing, but his mysteries are pretty disappointing.

The question of Mr Oz has been the overarching storyline of DC Rebirth's early arcs, and it finally comes to an end here, in the pages of Action Comics. The truth about Mr Oz is actually pretty interesting, but I'm not the biggest fan of Dan Jurgens writing.

Let's just say that Mr Oz is 'someone' who was taken by a big blue benefactor and shown that humans are actually bad. Knowing who that benefactor is, I think the idea here is pretty interesting - that is, as interesting as this worn out concept can be anymore. But The Oz Effect doesn't have the depth or complexity to explore its themes in a meaningful way. Humanity's evils turn out to just be Mr Oz's backstory, which makes this feel like just another arc of a superhero comic. Which is what this is, I suppose.

Just like with Superman Reborn, the thing I enjoyed most was the Kent family dynamic. That's the real selling point of this era of Superman/Action Comics, in my book.

I have to give props to Viktor Bogdanovic and Ryan Sook for crushing it on the art, but overall, I don't have very strong feelings about this.

This was good and interesting, but there was a lot of exposition.

This book is pretty anticlimactic especially for all the hype regarding ‘the hood with the green hood’ but honestly it was just meh

The first arc was a lex/Superman team up which I didn’t care for, in fact I can’t even remember what happens

The oz effect. Booooring....l to an extent. Um there was like no action at all like I came to read action comics not jor-el comics and his dad is boring and the art is trash

This was meh don’t read it

Okay, the story may be entertaining but well, finally we meet the secret identity of Oz; Jor-El.
For real? This does not looks natural, for some miracle he survived the Krypton destruction and stayed watching Supes activity, now that he has a family, Oz wants to take them to a planet in which they won't need to use secret identities.

Also, this can be "connected" to Doomsday Clock

I liked how the Oz character was worked into the series, but given the Superman lore, I'm mixed on the decision to bring Oz into the canon. (e-galley from NetGalley)

Interesting direction, but again, I hope all the 'time travel, he's coming, things you thought were real aren't' stuff doesn't derail everything.

Here's the thing. I don't love the big reveal of this story-line. (Also, the actual Oz effect feels eerily similar to our world right now.) However, Rebirth Superman has been so lackluster and unfocused that I was happy to have a more straight-forward adventure story. It felt a lot more like the Superman stories I've missed since this all began. The fourth star is probably kind, but it did leave me intrigued... and wasn't only about parenting, so that's a big plus.
