I love Meghan's humor!! I don't know how she writes things that are so hilarious because that seems incredibly difficult to pull off, but she's amazing at it. I read romance novels to escape the real world - I want to read books that are lighthearted, funny, steamy, and not overly realistic. I absolutely love over-the-top ridiculous and See Me After Class had me snort-laughing through the whole thing. So. Good. Not *quite* as good as Boss Man Bridegroom, but it's certainly up there.

Look, I almost DNF’d this, but I DNF’d the last Meghan Quinn book I picked up and I really did not want to DNF two books in a row from the same author. So, here we are.

Greer’s behavior in the beginning was unprofessional and immature. For that alone, she probably deserved to be fired. I also felt like Arlo’s backstory fell apart. Once he and Greer were together, they were really together and the relationship lost its dimension, and we lost the opportunity to discover why Arlo is the way he is. It was all just glazed over and it seemed like a missed opportunity to add depth to the story.

Overall, this was fine, but I don’t think I’ll be continuing this series.

Ranty review in 3, 2, 1…

Let me first preface this review by stating that i have tried Megan Quinn before and dnf’d after two chapters because i did not like her writing style. I persevered with this longer because i had it for free on my kindle and i was looking for steam over story. Tell me that cover doesn’t scream steam?
Her writing style is the same here. She does that thing where she’ll break the narrative to speak directly to the reader for a sentence like the character is sarcastic and then she says to us - did you catch the sarcasm there? I found it really jarring and it felt like a clumsy attempt at humour, as well as a heavy handed way of telling the story.

But then we get the cliche and frankly insulting side characters. Now i particularly took offence to Keiko’s presentation. I don’t think it’s outright mentioned but she’s clearly meant to be autistic, but the author has presented her like a robot and her lack of social skills are used as a comedic device. It was offensive and inaccurate. There may have been other terrible side characters but once i encountered that i started skimming and completely skipping conversations with side characters especially because they seemed incapable of having a conversation that didn’t involve sex. This book 100% fails the Bechdel test but they also specifically can’t stop talking about having sex, and not in a fun way like in a cringy who says that? Way. It was particularly noticeable when it didn’t make sense for their characterisation. There’s a section where the MMC’s sister is talking with him about his sexual history. First of all - weird that your sister even knows it, second of all our MMC has been built up to be an intensely private man with fears of intimacy but we’re expected to believe that he’s comfortable having a conversation with HIS SISTER where she’s going oh remember the girl you lost your virginity too? Why do i even need to know this information?

I stopped skim reading once i got to the part where our FMC - a brand new English teacher - shit on The Great Gatsby. Hell no. The Great Gatsby is a masterpiece - it’s the first and possibly only book that i really enjoyed studying at school. Like i dont expect everyone to enjoy the book but you can’t be an English teacher and not at least APPRECIATE IT! Lost all your credibility now, ugh.

Anyway let me get to the big reason why this book was awful - i hated the FMC. She’s a fresh out of uni, graduate teacher - this is her first proper teaching gig and she has the audacity in her job interview to talk smack about a certain type of teaching style that she considers elitist (you know with all her years of experience) and she clearly ruffles the feathers of our MMC because that’s his teaching style. Then she gets the job and is at a work function - that he is hosting by the way - where she finds out this teacher did not approve of her being hired and our fake autistic rep blurts it out to the host. FMC then proceeds to get drunk and basically accost him in his own home demanding to know why he doesn’t like her.
Later she and her friend refuse to leave when the party is over because they’re drunk and comfortable and he has to escort them forcibly out. At no point in this interaction is the MMC overly rude or belligerent. He’s not the kind of guy to pretend everything is fine when it’s not and he is firm about his boundaries but that is ok - and yet the whole book everyone - and i mean everyone - is talking about how he’s a stuck up asshole and should be nicer to the FMC and yet the whole time all i saw was her being inappropriate, unprofessional and an asshole, while he is just reacting to her bullshit with firm and unrelenting boundaries. He actually at one point tells her to leave him alone and she responds by touching him. This is harassment people - she should have been fired!

I felt gaslit. She’s the asshole!
And yet as i flicked through this i could see that he starts to think he should loosen his uptight teaching style. Why? His kids were getting the grades - what’s the issue? She hasn’t even done a year yet - we dont know if the kids would have responded and there’s no one correct style. Honestly i always hated teachers like this woman - you know those fresh out of uni grads who want to be friends with all the kids and be the cool teacher. Fuck off loser and get back to explaining chemical bonds. Like if you think you need to be friends with your students, you need more adult friends. It doesn’t make you cool , it makes you lame.

So anyway the steam was actually ok except i didnt feel like it matched the story. It was very stereotypical porno-esque scenes. You know a lot of desk stuff, but then i was like why not just make this the focus and only have minimal story then because clearly the point of this was the teacher role play and you wrecked it with not only too much story but a really really bad story that doesn’t even match the porn. And then i only got half the porn because he kept refusing to let her do anything to him until the 80% mark - where’s the fun in that

Laughter and love is the best combination and Meghan Quinn at bringing us both! Arlo is the teacher we all had and though learned a lot, hated the class. Greer is the teacher we all wanted but couldn't get into the class. Fun and innovative, she made learning high school English fun. But with Arlo in charge of the department. Greer is on her way out even before she begins. Her unorthodox methods have no room in this high school and Arlo makes sure she knows it. But there is more to this relationship besides teaching styles. Explosive chemistry keeps their witty banter flowing, but is that enough to keep this slow burn from going out? Arlo is a tough character. His narrow mind is his downfall. He is a character with a lot of layers and I love how Greer exposes each one. Greer's free spirit is refreshing. I love how she stands up for herself and does what she needs to. The cast of secondary characters that fall into the pranks show their true friendship colors, giving sage advice, fun in book club and gave us a lot of laughs. It's a wonderful story of learning to love, opening your heart and finding the one.

Zachary Webber and Erin Mallon bring all the passion and comedic timing to this story. What a team! Webber as Arlo pulls out all the stops. Who knew he could be stuffy and alluring at the same time? Mallon had me laughing at book club with an array of women we all want to hang out with! These two are amazing and together gave us a fantastic listen.

As a bonus, we have Date Night narrated by Connor Crais. A fun look at how how a couple keeps the passion alive! Add in the role play game of solving a mystery, I was blushing and smiling through their date. Crais brings it all to life with a playful, seductive set of voices. A fun, enjoyable treat!

You guys, this story can only be described as epic. Arlo and Greer are exactly what I look for in a couple and Meghan did an AMAZING job of writing these two. I laughed so much throughout their story and I could not put it down.

Greer is a new English teacher at a highly ranked high school - fresh out of college and idealistic to a fault. Arlo, on the other hand, is the well established English teacher and department head with strong opinions how teaching methods. When these two collide - there are too many laughs to count. The pranks that are pulled are hilarious even when they are subtle and as someone that can be a bit "particular" about things in my own life I can only imagine how I would react. Eventually the attraction between these two boils over and we got to see some STEAMY scenes that were just right for this story.

I adore the side characters that Meghan builds into her stories and how she ties them all together. I was so happy to get to see some more from Gunner after high novella in Stories for September and Romeo gave those sweet single guy that wants more vibes throughout the story. I am so hopeful that we will get a story with Romeo and Stella in the future. My favorite character though - Keiko. Her personality, facts, and way of speaking added so much to this story.

I think my favorite part of this story though is the literary references throughout. It's nearly impossible to go wrong with Pride and Prejudice and how it ties into Arlo and Greer's story at the end created extreme levels of romantic swoon. Also, the Great Gatsby references (green light anyone??) throughout were perfectly placed and added so much to Arlo's character and understanding where he came from.

Overall this story was amazing and I highly recommend it. Check it out now and if you haven't read Gunner's story in the Stories of September go do it now before you miss out!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐REVIEW ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh God, this is embarrassing. I don't know how or even that I acknowledged it in my subconscious but somehow, someway I assumed Meghan Quinn was never going to top my favorites.

Let me explain...
Mr.Darcy has always, always been my go to. Without any thought, he's the ultimate enemies to lovers (well you know what I mean). He's the arrogant, strong silent type. He's freaking catnip to this willing...kitty. He is the standard which I hold other fictional men to. Its not fair but it is what it is. Then a few years ago, oddly enough, Meghan usurped Darcy with Knox Gentry. I DO NOT SAY THIS LIGHTLY. Knox became the new Darcy for me while the old still makes me flutter Knox had stolen the pinnacle, the top of the Christmas tree spot. Now it is with a conflicted heart that I say in a weirdly and also apropos move See Me After Class has won the title back for Darcy via Arlo "Mr.Turns Me On" Turner.

I refuse to give details because the epic swooniness cannot be conveyed without fully immersing oneself in the See Me After Class world. That being said, make sure that you are in a comfortable environment because when swooning it is imperative to have a place to land softly. I advise that you have a method of drool removal and I cannot stress enough the need for strategically placed pillows, mattress, or a soft landing zone. Please consider this a mandatory condition of reading.

See Me After Class is without a doubt a new favorite. It's heartwarming, soul touching, and romantic nature is going to have wishing for a naughty teacher to choose you.

From school dances to classroom hijinks, it is both highly entertaining and a sweeping story for all those in love with love. Also, its about a man who reads!?!?! Is that alone not enough?

Enjoy watching your "go to" man crumble on the alter of fictional hero against this man and his Darcy weilding ways!

This story had potential, and a few nice moments, but the sex scenes totally ruined it for me. They were out of character and didn't really make sense.
