Notes:

- I'm glad that I started this series with [b:The Best Defense|278313|The Best Defense (Barbara Holloway #2)|Kate Wilhelm|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1330889376l/278313._SY75_.jpg|875771] #2. It was easy to follow without having read the first book and the characters felt more established than here.
- The flaw for this story was that the author tried to make it too interesting. There's a lot of moving elements and some of that came across as 'exotic', 'far-fetched' and stuffed to the gills with things the reader may want to know a whole lot more about.
- In comparison, I enjoyed the Best Defense more because it felt more rooted in everyday life and showed aspects of a court case that made the story/plot more interesting.
- While Death Qualified comes across as a story trying hard to catch attention and shine as the latest trend to be followed.
- Setting: Reading the descriptions of Oregon, Eugene, etc are great because it reminds me of when I visited the area.
- Added Anna Fields to my "listen list". She's a great narrator! I'm not sure if she's narrated a lot of books but I will keep my eye out for her name.

The title? I love the title. It fits the series well.

Kate Wilhelm is one of the best mystery novelists out there. Her ability to give out details, while not falling into the trap of predictability is wonderful.

This book starts out as a decently entertaining murder mystery. Then it kind of morphs into a mystery/sci-fi blend, and I wasn't really buying the sci fi parts. Also, I got bored with the excessive introspection. Wilhelm is supposed to be an excellent sci-fi author and I'm willing to give some of her other stuff a shot. But this particular book didn't really do it for me.

What a cliffhanger! It's a good thing I had the next book already because otherwise I would be in cliffhanger agony.

A tough book to pin down. Contains a bit of traditional mystery, a splash of science fiction, and a fair amount of courtroom drama. Overall I enjoyed the story, though I can see where it could rub people the wrong way. There was enough science fiction to turn off mystery or courtroom buffs, but probably not enough for someone reading for the SF aspect. While the book started a bit slow for me I would recommend it to people who enjoy both sci-fi and mysteries, but not one to the exclusion of the other.

I was a little disappointed in this book. The subject matter jumped all over the place. It was interesting enough that I wanted to keep reading, and I will read more of this series, but it was hard to follow at times.

One other note: I listened to this in audio format. Parts of the audio kept repeating. At first I thought I had just accidentally hit the rewind button, but after the 4th or 5th time, I knew that was not the case. It happened many many times.

Wow! Loved this. The ending was startling and very sad, looking forward to reading the next book.

Well-written, suspenseful, good characters. A workmanlike mystery/legal thriller.

It went unexpected places. That's usually a good thing, but in this book I felt that the author lost control of the story and decided to take a goofy way out.
