Jesus, what a book. The writing was so poetic and lyrical with a healthy heap of the philosophical. My review feels very inadequate in comparison and can't by any stretch of the imagination do it justice.

Not long after starting Áine and Fionn's story did I liken the characters and the feel of the book to that of Normal People (and Paul Mescal could do a fine job of Fionn

Laura's writing managed to make Áine and Fionn more than a love story, intense, gripping. I could not have asked for a more perfect book.

5 star read!
Áine is an employee who works at a B&B set in Dublin. She is a strong character, with great feminist beliefs and a passion for reading. Fionn is recovering from a gambling addiction, recently out of rehab. He is searching for his new beginning but stumbles into the B&B for one night only before jet setting off across the world.

It’s been six years since Áine and Fionn last lay eyes on each other, and with their last meeting left with many things unsaid, could this be the one night that changes everything? Or will the fact Fionn is leaving first thing the next morning or Áine’s worries over becoming vulnerable ruin the only night they have together?

This is a standalone novel named ‘Flourish by the Night’, which has a dual POV. Something that was incredibly interesting was that you could start the book on either chapter one or chapter two, as well as further into the book with chapter seventeen and eighteen. These chapters are interchangeable and are from two different viewpoints of main characters Áine and Fionn. I started with chapter one, from Áine’s stance.

This book has all I have been able to think about since I started it. It truly has captured me, Áine and Fionn are so real and so pure. I love the setting of the story, the names, the background. It definitely has become a comfort read for me. I started to feel almost protective over the two characters as they continued on their journey together. I so badly wanted what was best for them. I don’t want to say too much so I won't spoil the book for you all, but when I say I was on the edge of my start, it would be an understatement…

The song recommendation at the end was entirely beautiful and wrapped up the ending. I felt if it was a movie, that would be the song to finish the scene!

After receiving this kindly as an ARC, I will be purchasing a physical copy when it is released on February the 3rd 2024. Be sure to check it out!!!
