The Enchanted Inc series is wonderfully set in magic of New York... Until now! We finally get to meet the rest of Katie's family and see if there are any repercussions from her parents recent visit to The Big Apple.

Katie's little home town isn't as quiet as she once thought and Granny is a fantastic eccentric every family needs to have.

A great afternoons read.

Well, I'm disappointed.

To be honest, from the ending of book 3, I suspected that I would be. It boils down to Katie's martyr complex. I hate that in a character. I hate that other characters are reinforcing it, particularly because it doesn't make sense (
Spoilerfrankly, if Merlin is so concerned that Owen might go all dark-side, he should be THRILLED that Owen is in love. An emotional connection to someone - the feeling of compassion and concern for their well-being - makes him more of a good guy, not more likely to be a bad guy.
).

I hate that in the end, it boiled down to
Spoiler"Well, Katie, you're apparently always going to be a victim that needs to have a super hero babysitting you, so you may as well be with Owen." And even worse, I hate that Katie AGREED with that assessment!
In earlier books, Katie was a smart, innovative heroine, who made great use of her different perspective on the world to show that she didn't need super powers to make a difference. What happened to that? Now she's just a pathetic weakling, but hey, we like you, so stick around. And she rolls over for them to scratch her belly. Seriously, WTF?

I hate the way everyone treated Owen. Firstly, the guy does NOT need more kicks to the ego. Frankly, I think that Merlin and team are well on their way to turning him into Darth Vader, by berating him for all his mistakes (even things that aren't mistakes), berating him for being compassionate, and doing their best to isolate him. They are all clearly scared of him. Does that actually help him? No. And he's such a good guy, it would be great if the people in his life stopped treating him like a whipping boy. I think he should tell them all to piss off and go live his life somewhere, letting them deal with the mess. They deserve it.

Oh well.

:(

It kills me that there is no book 5! So, I looked at the author's website
here:http://www.shannaswendson.com/faq.html
and she says that her publisher will not let her publish book 5 until she
gets more noticed with the first four books. PLEASE read these books!
They are SO fun, and I'm ::dying:: to read book 5! Such fun books,
perfect for summer reading!

3 1/2 stars.
I liked this fourth installment much more than the third book in the series. The dialogue, characters, and plot seemed refreshed and invigorated. Overall, I would recommend this entire series as a lighthearted romp for those who enjoy fantasy or magical realism.

The whole premise for this book is so cliched- it's like Edward from Twilight and half a dozen other books all over again. It's such a stupid choice as well, it wasn't during everyday life that it happened but when Katie deliberately put her self in danger by acting as bait at a meeting with the bad guys, surely the best option would be to just not let her get into dangerous situations rather than completely abandon Owen and MSI and run off home to Texas. Also Owen saved her life and let the bad guys get away, that's classic being the good guys i.e. avoiding collateral, I really don't think his actions were a sign that he was loosing his mind, Merlin did after all also help Owen.

It just seems like such a stupid response to the situation, hearing Katie go on and on about how she'd made the best decision really got annoying. She also didn't seem to consider that abandoning Owen might also hurt him, she was okay running home to her family but he was stuck in the city with just Rod, his family doesn't live there and we've heard before that he doesn't really socialise with anyone else.

I also hated that even though she abandoned Owen and he came to help her out- showing he still cared she still wasn't particularly affectionate to him, her POV spends a lot of time talking about how cute he is but she doesn't actually show him that she cares in any meaningful way.

This is the fourth book in this series. the main girl has moved back home to texas, so as not to endanger the cause back in NY. But then magic, and the bad guy, show up in her town in TX. Then some magic & wizard battles ensue. I liked where they left it in the end. Idris, or however you spell his name, has never seemed like a particularly scary villain. He's more like a ditzy comic book villain. Can't wait for the next one!!

The fourth book in the Katie Chandler series finds our heroine back home in small-town Texas. She's left Owen and magic behind and is focused on the family business...it'd just be easier if her family wasn't so loony. But then some strange things start happening around town; stuff that seems a little too close to magic than Katie is comfortable with. How did magic get to her small town? And what will happen with Owen? Turns out things aren't as calm in Texas as they used to be.

I really liked this novel--I think it may be my favorite in the series. We get to know Katie better by seeing her family in all their big Texas glory. The door is left wide open for a fifth novel--I just hope that comes to fruition soon.

This series keeps getting better. I am so hooked. This was my favorite book of the series so far. I loved meeting Katie's family, especially her Granny. It reminded me of my extremely close knit family and the tiny town we live and farm in. The character developments were interesting and the plot moved a little quicker this time. It didn't feel like it was creeping along for no reason like in parts of the previous books. I can't wait to read the next one!

Okay the ending on this one... **sigh** It was awesome.

I did debate between a three and four stars for this one because while I found much of Katie's family to be funny, I also thought many of them were useless characters that didn't need to be included. Three older brothers, with three spouses and multiple children, plus the parents and the grandparents seemed excessive and some of the lesser used characters seemed downright flat. Also most of the townspeople introduce were either irritating or obnoxious and really not great additions to the cast of characters. I didn't like the Texas setting nearly as much as NYC.

That said I loved a lot of the action humor in this book and enjoyed some of the interactions between Owen and Katie who were back to playing the same game they did in Enchanted Inc of neither one really understanding what the other is thinking or feeling. Their relationship ups and downs were upsetting to say the least.

Overall it's a great improvement over the previous book in the series and despite the things I didn't like about it there were even more things that I did so I'd definitely recommend it.
