The run starts off with roller coast pacing, but once the Superior Spider-Man actually appears, things slow down. Exploring how Otto acts as Spider-Man and Parker is fascinating, but I missed that explosive energy Dan Slott brought before. We would get it back for the end of this book in another wild ride.

The first time I read the Superior Spider-Man was when it just came out in 2013. I really wanted to re-read this and I still love it so much.

A few years ago the whole series got re-released in two parts. In Part 1 we see the conclusion of the The Amazing Spider-Man series where Otto Octavius takes over Peter's body and becomes Spider-Man himself.

As Spider-Man, Otto wants to do different but still be a hero. He's more of an anti-hero, isn't afraid to kill or injure his villains. At the same time, Otto goes to university and even falls in love.

In part 1 we see villains like the Vulture, the Lizard, Morbius, the Hobgoblin and more. There's also a lot of set-up for the Hobgoblin and The Goblin King (better known as the Green Goblin) who will have a bigger part in part 2 (and become the main villain).

Honestly, I wish I knew why I didn't like this story. The coloring and artwork was phenomenal. I really enjoyed looking at the pages. As far as reading the storyline, it didn't do anything for me. I don't know if my dislike is because of my annoyance that Peter's entire character changed and two people and the Avengers immediately picked up on it. Or if it was the fact that so many different storylines (which I really should have expected) where all going on at once. I think the best part of this story for me was finally seeing Spider-Man doing what everyone else was doing, taking out the bad guys once and for all. Of course, this all added a layer of disdain for me, because when you have a hero who for so long has been a non-murderous, easy enough to get along with guy, suddenly becomes this person who is brutalizing and murdering people with witness, if just doesn't sit as right with you as you would've thought it would. I'm not going to lie, I won't be completing this series. It won't bother me one bit not knowing if Peter ever returns to himself or not. Also, I do like that for a while Doc Ock struggled with who he used to be and who is he is know. It was nice to see that he didn't just except his change, but had to actively remember who he was know. Although, I suppose by the end of this particular collection his was right back to doing Doc Ock (murdering) things just with a new face. And with the force of the mayor's office behind him.
