Didn't read the author info at the beginning originally, and expected this to be one of those celebrity children's books, capitalizing on a fad. Knowing that it's a real story made the book more touching. A bit longer than we like, though -- took a couple of story time sessions to finish it.

god im such a soft baby that i almost cried while reading it. the mom mentions how empty everything felt before. and that’s just so . . . bittersweet? idk how to explain it but there is just something so emotional and heartwarming about how having a kid can really bring meaning to your life. like to know a piece of you is missing and out there waiting. it reads more like a love letter to her daughter rather than a story which is so- ahh sweet? i dont even have words. also how her family isn’t traditional, not only because she adopted her daughter but because it’s just her, is so powerful? like to travel to a foreign country and spend days searching for your baby really shows how much love you are prepared to give. like to love someone that much before even knowing them is so sweet it just makes me wanna cry.
