Writing: great as usual | Plot: classic chicklit | Ending: hmmmmmm | Spice: fade to black (I believe this is the right term?)

SYNOPSIS

Events organizer, Maddie Fraser, is in the trenches: her boss is shite, her friends are shite, her family is shite, and her love life is basically non existent.

MY OPINION

I would LOVE to see this as a movie!! It's really giving classic early 2000s romcom. Even though the plots are different, it gave me the vibe of 'He's Just Not That Into You' which is a certified banger and you can not convince me differently!!!!!! I'm sure it's problematic by today's standard but during the wasteland of the 2000s it had me in a chokehold!!!

Anyways, this was a fun read but you can't think too hard about it. As per usual, there's A LOT of pop culture references, which I've learned that a lot of readers feel very strongly about. It doesn't bother me because it's kinda like a trip down memory lane. My fave joke was Maddie screaming 'kiss!' while Will and Tom engaged in a stare-off. When I'm watching TV, I LOVE screaming 'NOW KISS!!!!' at angry men about to fight. Yes I'm very mature! Thank you!

If you really wanna be critical about it—Maddie needed some new friends. Okay, I'll give Sarah a pass because she was going through her own shit, but Lauren wasn't doing any favours for the American stereotype. The fact she never though to pay Maddie for organizing her shot-gun wedding, even AFTER the big blow up, was truly appalling. I'd be sending a bill to her, her mama, and any other blood relative until she ran me my money. Absolutely not.

And then there's Will. I'm not sure why Maddie thought he was her boyfriend... she seemed a lil too old to be making big assumptions like that, especially when he refused to be seen in broad daylight with her. Maybe hookup culture is different in London, but I'd be hard pressed to throw around the word 'boyfriend' unless it's written in a document that's been notarized by a supreme court judge. Also, I felt like there was too much time spent on Will the Wanker and not enough one-on-one scenes between Maddie and Tom. Mans really developed BIG feelings for Maddie based on three interactions. Slow down there cowboy.

Anyways, my rating overlooked the above because it made me laugh #GIRLMATHS #PEMDAS!!!!!

PROS AND CONS

Pros: Kelk's trademark punchy, quirky writing, legit funny, gave me classic romcom vibes, great beach read

Cons: don't think too deeply about the dynamics of Maddie and her family, friends, and f#ckbuddies and you'll be all good

Had it not been for the ridiculous number of typos this book had, I would've given it 5 stars.

I picked this up because, since graduating college, I've been a bridesmaid 6 times so the cover and title appealed to me. I'm approaching the 6th wedding and it has been very stressful (due to the crazy MOH and not the bride, which is unusual) so I thought this would be a fun read.

It was *hilarious*, there were just so many quotable moments! Although there were parts of the story that were predictable (like the fact that Will was obviously cheating on Maddie and that Tom was not engaged and that Maddie and Tom would/should end up together) the details of the story were not so predictable and those were what made this so relatable to me. Also, Maddie being the "smoother" in so many of her relationships also hit home; this is like my full time job (that I'm not being paid for). Although, unlike Maddie, most of my friends and family are not quite as dramatic as hers.

It made me want to take up event planning, even though her clients were completely gonzo, and I don't know that I'd be that good at it.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I am a huge fan of Lindsey's work so when I heard there was a new book I immediately preordered it. I read this back in May when it was published but for some reason I never wrote a review.

Maddie has been asked to be her friends bridesmaid and she gives her a journal to complete. The book is written through this journal, like a diary which I rather enjoyed. Maddie is an events organiser and of course Lauren decides to capitalise on that and get Maddie to organise her wedding...except it's in Maddie's spare time....for free....

Maddie's other friend Sarah, also a bridesmaid,  is getting divorced and tbh I can't think of a worse situation to be in. Lauren and Sarah are at opposite ends of the scale and poor Maddie is stuck in the middle trying to keep the peace.

Maddie is also up for promotion at work and does everything she can to prove she should get the job. As well as all of this...Maddie has some love interests which provide some amusing tales in her journal.

This is a great chicklit read  that will have you craving for more.

Fun read, but I predicted the ending at the beginning!
