5/5 stars page count 158 a short classic that warns about censorship, the need for immediate gratification that evolves in a society that diminishes longer forms of media into tiny consumable sound bites, and the tyranny of government that feeds its people distractions and brainwashes them in order to keep them complacent and ignorant in order to continue their agenda of control and power and war unopposed. a dystopian novel written in the 50s that is extremely relevant in todays age of social media like tiktok and algorithms that target us to stay on our phones as long as possible and only show us media that aligns with our views and hides some news that would upset us and cause us to take action. like tiktok shadow banning tiktoks with hashtags related to gaza in certain countries. very few people read books anymore either, especially not the classics. think about the met gala happening while israel was invading and bombing gaza. some people think this book warns about the dangers of technology but i don’t think that’s it at all - it warns about how technology can be abused by those in power to further their goals. it’s not about the technology it’s about the government and those in power. i was still admittedly kinda bored at times reading this bc i don’t have the attention span for all of the complex critical analysis going on in the book which is so funny bc he literally talks about how people cant focus and engage with complex thoughts anymore as a result of what i mentioned earlier. i still think it’s a relevant and important read and that in many ways he accurately predicted todays day and age.
