This is a gorgeous and important volume, providing a pathway into areas of Clark Ashton Smith’s (CAS) creative output that have traditionally been obscured by his works of fiction.

CAS’ prose poems are one of his greatest achievements, and this volume contains the most complete collection of those works ever assembled. Even more unique to this volume is the collection of color reproductions of CAS’ drawings, paintings, and sculptures. While visual art was not CAS’ greatest strength, these pieces are nonetheless fascinating.

Finally, the introductory essay by Scott Connors is probably the most significant piece of critical writing yet penned on the subject of CAS as a graphic artist, so all-in-all this is a splendid volume for any admirer of the Sierran shaman.
