This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't for me. I had high hopes for this book and the book fell very short. However, I could definitely see the potential of this book. All the revelations and plot twists were quite obvious, the romance felt a bit vanilla and before the romance even really picked up I could tell you exactly what was going to happen with the relationship after they both realised they had feeling for one another. But, this book did keep me entertained so...

[3.5 stars] there were things i loved and disliked about this book, what i disliked was mainly the progression of the plot, it felt like this book was a bridge or an introduction into the actual events that probably happen in the next one? like no major event occurred but more got introduced into the universe it was set it in and the characters. that being said CRIER AND AYLA

It's painfully boring. The characters and the world didn't captivate me that much. The romance between Ayla and Crier developed too fast it's unbelievable. They should have gotten more scenes together, but no, they're just looking at each other longingly, and somehow that changes everything they've been working for their entire lives.

This isn’t completely horrible and I didn’t completely hate it, but I also didn’t really like this book as a whole either. I really LOVED the first two chapters, I thought the writing and the world building were fantastic, but later on, when Ayla and Crier meet for the first time, is when the flaws really started jumping out at me. Sadly, their relationship was the worst part of the book in my opinion. It felt very insta-lovey in a way that was completely unbelievable for Ayla’s character.
It is established that her plan/desire to kill Crier is literally the only thing keeping her alive every day and you’re trying to tell me that when she has the chance to kill her, she decides to save her for no reason? Well it’s implied that the reason she saves her is because of this immediate attraction that they feel for each other but I’m simply not buying it. There are other half-assed reasons Ayla gives as well but again, I’m not buying it. Ayla’s bloodlust just pretty much immediately disappears after their first interaction. In her narration, Ayla sometimes tells us that she still wants to kill Crier, but nothing in her thoughts reflects that. I wish that they had kept this aspect and explored the way that love/desire and hate are extremely closely related. There’s a few paragraphs where this idea is mentioned but it’s very short and we don’t actually get to see Ayla grapple with the desire to simultaneously kill Crier and be with her.
There is a mildly interesting plot going on outside the romance but it’s not interesting enough for me to want to pick up the sequel.
