Loved the text in this. The illustrations were also excellent . . . yet confusing.

A little girl doesn't want to go to bed. "Does everything in the world go to sleep?" she asks her parents. As she questions her parents, they explain to her how each animal sleeps. A dog curls up on the couch, a cat stretches out in front of a fireplace...and a tiger sleeps so he stays strong. With unique, almost dream-like illustrations, this is a sweet book about parents who don't fight their child who doesn't want to go to bed, but she ends up sleeping anyway. Caldecott Honor 2013.

Caldecott Honor Book, 2013.

This would be perfect to read to a child that doesn't want to go to sleep. Talks about some different animals and how they sleep. The child in the book imitates each animal as she falls asleep.

Great mentor text to use to talk about mood. The text and the illustrations even made me sleepy. :)

I love anything illustrated by Pamela Zagarenski, and this did not disappoint! It's a sweet bedtime book, and I love the options it gives kids to identify with that aren't the traditional "cuddly" options. But maybe that's just the tiger-obsessed toddler I read it with...

Sleepy little book. The pictures are not my style.
Also, do whales really sleep? I thought they never did...

Whimsical illustrations make this bedtime tale as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the ears.
