Thoughts: This was definitely not what I was expecting. It was much more. First of all, it’s a thriller, not a cozy mystery. The main character, Theo, sometimes comes across as naïve and meek, but by the end, she has grown into a stronger person. I loved the character of Mac, and Gus wasn’t too bad either. And the dog, Horse, was adorable. The plot was at times a little confusing, but did work out in the end. In fact, the end surprised me a little, but in a very good way. It’s definitely not the kind of work I usually read, but I’m glad I did. It was very different and intriguing.
Recommendation: Recommended.

I requested this books cause of 3 reasons: the cover, the title and the description. I thought It would be a supper sweet novel about a writer, but it wasn’t. It was a shocking thriller written by the master of Suspense. I love books where the main character is a writer(Little Women, for example) and The Mystery Writer isn’t an exception. It was very inspirational for me while writing my YA thriller, Golden Keys, about a writer that researches the “death” of her father’s. Very good and brilliant. 5 out of 5.

🦋The mystery writer
When Theodosia Benton abandons her career path as an attorney and shows up on her brother's doorstep with two suitcases and an unfinished novel, she expects to face a few challenges. Will her brother support her ambition or send her back to finish her degree? What will her parents say when they learn of her decision? Does she even have what it takes to be a successful writer?
What Theo never expects is to be drawn into a hidden literary world in which identity is something that can be lost and remade for the sake of an audience.
I’ve never read from this author but I’ll be sure to read again from her because her writing is amazing.
The book starts with a romance then it becomes a murder mystery while it develops another romance.
I loved that the book didn’t focus on the romance but on who did it? Who killed Dan Murdoch? And the peculiar of it was that it was made to keep you hook so it doesn’t let you rest so you have to find out.
It all comes down to unmarking someone who had put on a mask on everyone who readers are not waiting for. Then it comes the conspiracy theories.

I’d give this 2.5 ⭐️ overall. The premise was interesting and unique, but there was somehow too much and not enough happening at the same time. I didn’t connect with any of the characters and had a hard time staying engaged.
In short, I really wanted to love the book based on its premise, but the execution of it was a miss for me.

I had high expectations for this book, but unluckily it was just not my piece of cake.
The plot seems interesting but nothing made me connect to the characters in any way, they seem kinda flat. Sometimes I felt a lack of details for the characters' development, but at the same time, I felt there were too many unnecessary details for the story. Maybe it was the opposite way I would ended up liking this book more.
But I’m sure many people will enjoy “The Mystery Writer”! The twists are good, and the story is interesting. Just - again - not my type.

I absolutely adored the Woman in the Library, so had really high hopes for this book as well. I enjoyed but not nearly as much as the other. That said, it was still ab entertaining and twisting ride.

This was different. I love conspiracy theory stuff in fiction because it’s based so strongly in possibly conceptual truths.

So, she spends time in a coffee shop “writing”… There she meets Dan, a well known writer working in a manuscript of his own. The two form a swift friendship, which quickly turns romantic.
But, when Dan is found dead and his manuscript missing, things become stranger and stranger. Theo knows that she needs to learn more about Dan and is determined to do so.
This was good. I enjoyed the characters and the plot, but there was something missing for me, something that kept me from fully engaging with the story. It was a fun and interesting take on the rich and powerful and how far the reach goes.

I love mysteries and thrillers.This is a great collection of essays by mystery authors.Its a mixed bag,definitely not predictable.The essays are short so it keeps your interest.
