I loooooved this! Great cast of characters and I loved getting to see them interact and find out more about their stories. Andrew is such an alpha, omg. I loved the spicy scenes with him and Libby. So good! I also liked that the story was pretty different than other mafia romances I’ve read. It’s always nice to encounter something unique.

Chasing Liberty has an easygoing feel to it. Neither Libby nor Andrew can put up more than a token resistance to their appeal to one another over the course of this book. That’s in part because they got to know one another one summer in their teens. But it’s also because Libby is in a bind after her father made a bad deal with the Russian mafia. So when her old friend—who’s part of an Irish mafia family—appears to tell Libby she’s going to be his wife, she goes along with this in a, well, easygoing way.

Yes, Libby does dream of escaping somewhere far away, but most of the book focuses on the growing connection between Andrew and Libby. Their physical connection is off the charts—in some ways, they fit together a bit too perfectly—and that’s the primary way they build the beginnings of a relationship with one another.

There’s also a fair amount of action and suspense since it turns out there are more reasons for Libby to marry than just for protection. Seeing how that plays out is one of the most interesting aspects of Chasing Liberty. This first book in the Donovans series also introduces a host of Donovan family members with just enough of a tease about their quirks or problems to make me anticipate future books.

But Libby and Andrew go down easily as protagonists, like a smooth Irish whiskey. Chasing Liberty is straightforward, but that’s a good way to set up a series and expose readers to this new Irish mafia family.
