i got to the chapter about the bachelor party and just hated all the stuff with the dogfighting and the slurs the guys were saying. i guess it’s accurate but i just wasnt expecting it in a rom com vibe type book and it just turned me off from the book

The first half of this book I was super engaged, but the second half I was starting to get bored of all the opulence, clothing, etc.

Some of it was a little bit of a stretch to me (not necessarily the extravagance as I have no idea what it's like to be rich or in Asia) but more things like how Rachel adjusted a little too easily right away to finding out Nick's family is mega rich? She just kind of rolls with it no questions asked about it (at least until later in the book). Not even a debrief after the first event?

I loved the soap opera, the multiple storylines/perspectives intertwining, and the tone being lighthearted compared to my usual books.

Overall I still enjoyed and look forward to finishing the series. I listened to the audiobook and by the end the narrators "Nick" accent was getting a bit hard to listen to, so fair warning! Most of the other characters were ok.

Hehe. I enjoyed it. Though, the flow of the book was a little odd to me.

Did not enjoy this book. The focus was on the intense wealth and name dropping brand names rather than any kind of story.

"Never ever wear green chiffon unless you want to look like bak choy that got gang raped" (p. 67).

The part of this book which is about various Asian cultures, regional foods how the countries view each other's citizens etc., was fascinating. The part about the scheming mothers and bitchy women gossiping all over the place was tedious.    The sudden and egregious use of the words f****t, c**t and n****r was just gross and unnecessary.  Also, seriously, dog fighting?  These characters are already entirely unsympathetic.

I missed the moment for reading this - right now with the current status of the world this crass, wealthy entitled class all seem not just deeply insipid but also evil.

This is completely out of my normal reading preferences, but I needed a palette cleanser. And it turns out I really enjoy a lighter read once in awhile! This was a really fun read, and I devoured it in like two days. There were times that this ogling at the mega-rich was fun and entertaining, but it did wear on me a bit eventually. The constant obsession with wealth and status felt frustrating at times, knowing how much impact that money could have if directed in a different manner. I know it’s fiction, but we all know this kind of stuff goes on in real life all the time. I actually found Astrid’s storyline on the side to be the most interesting. Especially when she’s in Paris! Having been there so recently made me appreciate those sections so much. I don’t know that I truly care what happens to these characters, but I’ll probably read the next book just because the reading journey here was so fun!
