Quite an amusing read. I've never read any of the diary of a wimpy kids series so it was quite fun to read with one of my students. I'd like to go back and read number one to see how gregory started in the series. However, that being said, I don't love the message of the story. The main character spends most of the book avoiding work and painting a very selfish picture of friendship. In the end he reforms but I wasn't sure if the message was clear enough, at least on the friendship front.
Overall, however, I enjoyed the story and so did my student.

< P O S I T I V E S >:
○ One thing I’d like to acknowledge about this series is the brilliant stand-alone quality to each book, plot-wise!
○ As usual, the humour was great, the ‘generations of Tickles’ (that’s a cuddly toy, it sounds weird out of context) the ‘counterfeit operations’ of homework, the text Greg sent under his mother’s name, and Greg’s captions under the photos he took ‘whilst being a full-time student’!
○ I appreciate that Greg broke the phone he technically manipulated his parents into getting him. It shows he didn’t deserve it, which justifies his behaviour.
○ Abigail tried to change Rowley’s image, and eventually they break up!
○ Greg willingly sits with Rowley at the back of the lunch queue, making up for Greg’s not-so-nice treatment of him earlier.

○ The ring plot throughout the book, as well as the ‘Body Blankie’ sub-plots were cringey, weird and silly.
○ As well, there were even more illustrations of shirtless male characters, than the last book from this series I read. I personally think this half nakedness is unnecessary and a bit inappropriate. This time it was not just in the bathroom! For example, as soon as Roderick and Greg got home from religious service, they started taking off their shirts. More worryingly, Greg’s cousins took a photo of him naked! That sounds illegal! Speaking of taking photos, Manny took photos of the used toilet, which is gross. A third example of a shirtless male character is Fregley, who became famous for his shirtless belly button ‘chewing’ antics.

Another hilarious middle school read! Greg is lonely. Rowley's time has been overtaken by a girlfriend. Greg's mom takes on the project of helping him find new friends. You can imagine where that goes... Until Greg finds a Magic 8 Ball under Rodrick's bed and starts to get answers to life's most important questions!

Not the funniest one in the series but I did enjoy reading it and it really reminded me how much I actually love reading; it's been a while since a book made me feel this way. I like it :)
