A gripping tale! I’m less familiar with the legend so every twist and turn was a surprise for me. Especially enjoyed the subversion of what one might expect of such heroic characters. A touch heavy on the exposition and some clunky ‘old timely’ dialogue, but the overall mood and storytelling more than makes up for it. The mirrored lives of the sisters, the creeping dread, the no holds barred exploration of the less savoury elements of Greek mythology— excellent.

One to sit and read solidly for hours and hours.

3.5 Stars - I was not familiar with the stories of Ariadne and her sister prior to reading this so the twists and turns were interesting. I love a good feminist retelling of Greek mythology but this one left me sad and a bit bitter. Maybe that’s the point though.

Slow start but then it really picked up. I enjoyed the character development for Ariadne and Dionysus but not so much for Phaedra at the end. Still a good read!

Parts of this book I was sooo captivated and parts I was like well okay I guess. I do love the way all the adapted Greek mythology books focus on how the women are always the ones affected. They’re all kind of hard to read but you know it’s important at the same time
