A thought-provoking, albeit predictable, spin on a genie/djinn granting three wishes. This short story fits perfectly in the Dead Djinn universe and adds to the lore of the angels in the series.

The writing style of this novella was exquisite. The descriptions were immersive without being flowery, creating this magical, secretive atmosphere that had me completely hooked. I’m so obsessed with the historical steampunk Cairo setting, too!

The story is written in the second person, which I always find super interesting, it being so unlike most POVs.

The narrative is structured almost like a folktale, which is a favourite trope of mine. There was some thought-provoking commentary on how telling the truth doesn’t absolve you of responsibility. For example, confessing to an act of wrong-doing isn’t “enough”; reparative action must also take place.

Another interesting short story from the Dead Djinn universe. Too short for me to feel much of an impact unfortunately ( just like its predecessor ), but I think it's well-written and packs enough details considering its length. Interesting choice to use second person pov as well, which worked just fine. However, I still find the actual setting more intriguing than anything else.

I really liked the world building in this short story. Even though the twist in this was predicable, I still enjoyed this story.

Writing from the second person view was very interesting and well-done! The story was short but it still made me quite emotional. Enjoyed more than the first short story and excited to dive into the main book.
