The writing style of this novella was exquisite. The descriptions were immersive without being flowery, creating this magical, secretive atmosphere that had me completely hooked. I’m so obsessed with the historical steampunk Cairo setting, too!
The story is written in the second person, which I always find super interesting, it being so unlike most POVs.
The narrative is structured almost like a folktale, which is a favourite trope of mine. There was some thought-provoking commentary on how telling the truth doesn’t absolve you of responsibility. For example, confessing to an act of wrong-doing isn’t “enough”; reparative action must also take place.
