I liked this book: the story was good and the illustrations were cute. I liked that Ducky played mediator for her friends. I did not like that there weren't any adults involved. In today's world, with so many anti-bullying campaigns and advertisements, I would have liked the story better if Ducky had gone to a teacher for help. Even an ending with Billy Goat's parents explaining to him why biting your friends is not acceptable would have improved the story for me.

This was an excellent book. The illustrations are adorable and all the animals looked like the animals they were depicting. There weren't distracting background elements from the main characters. I used this book with two of my mother's foster kids (two boys 6 & 9). They have a challenging time with appropriate behaviors for when they get angry(one being biting) and this book was great. It wasn't too preachy and they thought it was super funny. It was a great way to talk about this biting issue with frankness and opened a good dialogue. Like others i wish there was a adult present in the book but then i thought well isn't it also good for kids to reinforce good behavior as well.

Bernette Ford, No More Biting for Billy Goat! (Boxer Books, 2013)

I really like the idea of couching morals like this in a story rather than just giving them directly, a la the Free Spirit Publishing books reviewed above. In the case of No More Biting for Billy Goat!, though, I wish it had been executed better. Ford has the right idea—giving us a story and establishing characters—but when it gets down to time to work in the moral, she does so by pausing the story and using language that may be a touch on the advanced side for the pre-lit set while still feeling overly simplistic for the adult doing the reading. On the right track, but not quite there yet. ** ½
