Even being probably the least athletic person I know, I have always had a love of sports. For me, some of my absolute favorite reads are sports romances. I had never read a book by Jackie Barbosa before Skin In The Game, but jumped at the chance to read this football centric story. I found this story to be a wonderful mix of football and romance, without it being too heavy on one or the other. It was a great read, and I can't wait to read more from Jackie Barbosa in the future.
Cade is a successful NFL quarterback for the Texans, but due to an injury on the field he is currently out of the game. He agrees to come home after 16 years away to help out his high school coach and father figure by temporarily taking over his head coaching job. What he doesn't expect to find is Angela, the freshman girl who once gave him the advice he needed to turn his game around and win his senior championship, to have grown into the stunning woman she has become. The chemistry and attraction is instant, and Angela and Cade proceed to have a hotter night together than either one of them have ever experienced. What neither of them knows is that they will also be working together for the next 3 weeks, as Angela is the assistant coach to the Eagles football team. As the two of them work together, they find it impossible to only have one night with each other.
Despite Cade being a somewhat cocky football player, I found his character to have so many different sides to him. I especially enjoyed how real he was. Often times he would say something other than what he actually meant, showing he was just as normal as the rest of us. It was nice to see his character develop from a football player set on advancing his career to a man in love.
I found Angela to be an extremely likable character as well. Her strength and ability to pursue a career in a male dominated field was really inspiring. I also enjoyed seeing a heroine who wasn't your typical girly girl, and who not only enjoyed sports, but also knew what she was talking about. There were a few times that I felt that her character overreacted, but she was a heroine that I found myself rooting for from page one.
Overall this book was an enjoyable read, and I loved watching Cade and Angela fall in love and grow both as individuals and as a couple. I am really looking forward to seeing where the author takes this series and hopefully getting to see more of some of the characters from this book. If you like some sports with your romance, this is one I would recommend that you pick up!

This was a sexy and quick book to zoom through. The hotness of Cade and the beauty of Angie made them a good couple but like all good couples, there are always bumps in the road.
While this was a good book to read, there was that “oomph” missing from it to really capture me. It was either that the couple was a “good” couple but not the greatest or just maybe it was the quick story plot. However, it (to me) was worth reading.
I really liked the epilogue, I think that was the part of the story that touched my heart the most and it showed (hopefully) book number two’s characters, Rachel and Warren.

This was a cute story about the golden boy of the football field coming home to find love with the girl that never stood out in high school.
Cade Reynolds suffered a devastating shoulder injury and is hoping to make it back into a starting position in the NFL. But when his high school football coach calls to ask him to fill in as high school football coach for a few weeks, Cade knows he's returning back home to do his coach this favor. He didn't expect to find Angie Petersen, the girl that game him advice his senior year that lead to the State Championships, to be one of his assistant coaches or to be the one woman he can't live without.
I loved Angie being this super hot football coach who's players all loved her and had the respect of her head coach, but a woman who really doesn't understand just how respected she is. Cade shows her that she not only has earned and deserves her coaching job, but she also deserves to have a man who understands when to take a back seat to her.
Cade may have been "God's gift" at one point and time, but he learns that what he had can come and go in a flash. It takes spending a few weeks with Angie for him to discover that what's important is having a home and someone to love, with or without the game that made him who he is.

She grew up learning and loving football and an encounter with the high school quarterback Cade Reynolds when she was a freshman changed his future. Now its 16 years later and Angela happens to have grown into a beautiful woman. She also teaches math and is an assistant coach of the football team at the Harper Falls high school.
Cade now plays in the NFL but is back in town after a shoulder injury as a favor to his old football coach. He has asked Cade to step in and lead the team in his absence. While relaxing at the local coffee shop, Cade sees Angie and immediately asks her out not realizing who she is. Angie, of course, knows who he is (but not why he is in town) and having had a crush on him for most of her life, agrees. This leads to a fantastic night between them and Angie makes the decision to leave before he gets up the next morning – not realizing she was going to be seeing him again very soon.
Angie doesn't take the news that Cade is there to lead the team very well as her ultimate goal is to take on the head coaching position when Lund retires and this move makes her feel like she needs to prove herself. There are some other things that happen through the story but the focus is the building relationship between Angie and Cade.
This was a very quick read and despite the short length, I thought it was very well done. There is great chemistry between Cade and Angie. Angie is smart and Cade is more than just an NFL jock and I think that is what made the story believable. If you are looking for a quick, sexy read this one would be for you. It has a solid story, some great characters and some definite steam.
Based on this and the last Brazen story I read, I will definitely be continuing to get these books an recommend people check them out.

This book was on the cusp of being completely awful for me. I couldn't get into this book so, I'm not going to go into what the book was about. You can read that in the book summary. I'll just tell you some reason's why I didn't like it. I thought Angie and Cade were extremely boring. I found Angie more annoying than anything and Cade did nothing for me. The storyline fell flat and was SO boring. I found myself skipping over stuff just to get through it faster. The sexy times between Cade and Angie weren't even any good. The sex almost felt forced and rushed and was just there as filler. Skin in the Game had potential but, sadly it did not deliver. I really don't have anything to say about this book so I'll just leave it at that.

I initially received this book to read and review for the blog tour surrounding it's release. Unfortunately, I didn't get to participate as planned because I was admitted into the hospital due to pregnancy complications.
I was happy to finally get the chance to read the book, however, and was no disappointed. It caught and held my attention instantly. I'm very much into more adult books and Skin In The Game has just enough sexy situations to satisfy without going overboard. I enjoyed the characters as well as the overall story and believe that, in my opinion, it was very well written. I would have no problems reading more from Jackie Barbosa in the future.
I do think the ending was pretty predictable but it fit well within the story, so no complaints here.

This was a good, fast romance read. I usually have no problems reading Brazen novels, they are always or almost always fun and fast with like able characters. This one was no different and the football subject was a major plus for me seeing as I'm slightly obsessed with football. Overall 4 stars, recommend if you like adult romance and football!

Skin in the Game begins when Angie sees her old high school crush in the coffee shop in her home town. She's a teacher and football coach now, and she never would have expected to meet the NFL star Cade again. But she does, and before she even realizes why he's back home she ends up sleeping with him and leaves him thinking it was just a one night stand.
Cade however doesn't remember her from high school but he knows she's beautiful and smart, and he wants more than one night. And when he finally finds out that he's going to be her boss he knows he has to do what he can to get her back in his bed. Even if only for a short time.
The book was good. It was short, and sweet, and I really liked it. I loved both the main characters. Especially Angie, she was awesome. The fact that she was an awesome football coach as well just made her even more likable in my opinion. And then hot guy Cade basically comes in and sweets her off her feet. Well in a sense anyways.
