I really didn't get on with the writing style and I found it sexist in places

Must read for those people who think that psycological traumas can be treated by well wishing and everything will be ok over time. More deep and condensed version of The truth about Harry Quebert Affairs.

Has its faults and takes you a while to make sense of everything that's going on, but it's a very cleverly constructed tale and the setting and sultry atmosphere are addictive! Once it had me in its grip, I couldn't put it down.

This is one of Sebastian Japrisot's books that I had never read before. While I enjoyed the book, it's definitely not one of his strongest. The mystery is intriguing and I really wanted to find out what was going to happen, and there was a very good twist in the end, but I felt like it dragged a bit in places.

I liked the different perspectives that you got to read throughout the book and it was interesting to see the events unfold from each person's point of view. I liked that Japrisot made Elle slightly unhinged and it was chilling to see her get slowly worse. It made for a very interesting character.

I thought the twist in the ending was very well done and I didn't see it coming at all. I thought it was a nice touch and gave the story a sort of bittersweet end. It's not exactly a happy ending, but I think that it's a fitting ending and I like the way Japrisot handled it.

My only complaint was that I felt it dragged a lot in places and I wasn't thinking "I must keep reading to find out what happens." It was more of a "I want to find out what happens but I also want to be done." It was an intriguing book but I felt like it could have moved faster and that would have held my attention more.

A good book, but not one of Japrisot's strongest.

Note: there is a rape scene that while not super explicit could be triggering for some readers.

Well-written, but disturbing.

English follows.

I am not a big fan of detective stories but this was interesting enough and easy enough French that I could read it reasonably quickly.
It is a reverse detective story. No murder until near the end, by which time you know almost everything except one surprise.
