The 22 Murders of Madison May by Max Barry

The more time passes since I finished this, the less I liked it.

I can't think of any multiverse stories I liked, because they always end up bogged down in the details. In this case, it's this:
SpoilerJoe1 goes to universe2 and displaces Joe2. What happens to the place where Joe1 was? Does he just become a missing person? That might be a more interesting story!

This one has dull characters, except for one little bit of Maddie that Barry slowly develops and uses at the end. The book is unavoidably repetitive, and some passages feel unnecessarily long.

The bland men that M and F keep blowing off are ciphers, and necessarily not very observant. It felt as if they had to be suppressed hard so they couldn't raise plot-spoilers.

And ALL of this is because multiverse is very hard to write.

I feel it could have been fleshed out more. But great depiction of incelic male psychopaths who project all their hopes and desires on a woman and when they don’t get what they want would move 22 parallel universes to murder her if they could. No exaggerations detected.
