The book has some interesting stuff to say about the nature of religion, war, and history. I feel that I would have liked it even more if I already had background knowledge on the historical periods it's set in.

delightful historical fiction about war torn andalucia in 2 ages of conflict, the spanish civil war (1938) and the crusaders late 11th century and how the story of the brotherhood gave courage to hostages in a church in 1938 and parallels of mankind not matter what age
