I hardly think any differently about this book as I did for my Century: 1910 review:

I am here again for Kevin O'Neill's artwork, and the Century concept is neat. But the lack of a clear and potent singular villain/villainous entity feels a little meandering. While LXG Vol. 1 & 2 leaned into the pulp penny dreadful vibes and had fast paced political thriller plots with fantastical characters and elements, Century 1910 is un-focused and un-engaging. But still good of course. This is Alan Moore after all.

The CENTURY trilogy recovers a bit of it's "mojo" here, but it certainly isn't the epic conclusion I had hoped for. I think I can understand what Moore was going for, but it doesn't gel in the way I had hoped. Still, it's an improvement over 1969, and a worthwhile read. There are some very amusing cultural references here, and it's not nearly as dark and cynical as 1969 was. Disappointing, but still worth the time to read.

4 stars is pretty generous for what is actually pretty light on plot. But taken within the context of the other Century books, it works pretty well. I did enjoy the characterisations, and I still find all the little references diverting. I can understand people being totally unmoved by this, but personally I just wanted it to be a bit longer. I don't even mind Moore's songs as much I used to.

Another Alan Moore book I enjoyed without having much sense of what was actually occurring.

The latest volume in the series is boring and unimaginative. The end battle is a parody. On the plus side some good artwork.

While this was not as bad as the previous volume, [b:The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century 1969|10474309|The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Century 1969|Alan Moore|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327936847s/10474309.jpg|15379611], it was a long way off from Alan Moore's best work. Worse yet, for a man that is constantly lauded for his originality, this book is incredibly derivative of the Harry Potter series -- I could be kind and say it was inspired, I suppose, but it felt derivative. Anyway, after a few dozen pages of meandering pretext, the remaining league faces down the anti-christ, the aforementioned Harry Potter character, at which point Allan Quatermain is killed by his lightning bolt urine.

Different book, different penis monster. This may signal a parting of the ways between Alan Moore and myself.

I finally understood a heavy chunk of the references in this one ("The Thick of It" and "West Wing" and "24" and finally not some obscure Victorian peripheral character!), which made it more readable, but the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen remains the Alan Moore series which I'm the least wowed with. Which is still setting a relatively high bar. Seeing the school massacre combined with Harry Potter turned my stomach quite a bit -- Harry Potter was all that was innocent and nice about my childhood, and stories of school shootings was all that was terrifying and wrong about growing up in the 90's and 00's in America, so I can't say I loved that little sideplot, but it was still really effectively done.
