This is a beautiful little book. It made me cry. It also amped up my climate anxiety to 11, since I live in the PNW and the start of this book could be in my lifetime. It's hard, sometimes, not to be hopeless. This book perhaps provides some hope, in that it shows the different ways we might survive the climate apocalypse and still find some beauty and happiness in life. I think I'm just too indoorsy to make it in an off-grid, fire-ravaged world.
I really enjoyed the ways the vignettes were connected to each other, across generations, as we see decisions that one character makes still have ripples decades later. All in all, this was a pretty lovely and emotional book and I recommend it for anyone who is in the mood to feel some big feelings.
