I grabbed Board Resolution by Joey W Hill because it was recommended for a good fit on this blog, had some great ratings by people I trust, and it was free at the time. I was asked to put op the Knights of the Boardroom Series reading order and when I read the description, holy hell, it sounded too yummy not to read. I mean, 5 Doms and little old me Savannah? Fuck yeah!

Well, not so much. It was written well, but it just wasn’t for me. I loved the description. I have no problem with BDSM (duh) and 4 extra guys just makes it an awesome party, but I just couldn’t get into it. Though the sex was hot, I never cared about the characters.

Savannah is a buttoned up corporate executive 35, beautiful, and still a virgin (WTF? Seriously?) She has been groomed since childhood to take the reins at her widowed father’s company, which happened 2 years prior upon his death. Her father’s rules for the corporate life have been ingrained in her, mostly rules about not backing down and never showing emotion which earned her the nickname of Cyborg Savannah.

But Matt and his 4 sidekicks see more. Matt is the head of another company that has very close dealings with Savannah’s. He decides to set a meeting for 8:00pm on a Friday. What follows is a pretty hot scenario that can be construed as non-consensual, but I don’t think so. Savannah had such strong walls up, Matt had to do something really drastic to break down those walls, but saying it was overkill would be a MAJOR understatement.

Savannah was “kind of” given a choice. Surrender her will (she is tough as nails, he knows she would never) or suffer the consequences. What are the consequences? Oh poor baby….Matt and his 4 right hand (haha) men hook her into some crazy contraption that lifts and suspends her above the conference table. This thing was custom built just for her, it is run by remote and is on tracks in the ceiling. So Matt sends his guys to work.

“You can play with her in as many and varied ways as you wish that will give her pleasure, but you can’t fuck her pussy. Understood? And if you touch her, you have to make her come” – Matt

I volunteer!!! Mind you, Savannah has never even played with herself (oh please, she is 35! maybe she needs to visit my Red Room of Pain), but all she had to do was drop a hanky for it to stop. But she is blindfolded, gagged, strung up over a table with spotlights and cameras on it, and Matt is saying they all love her and won’t hurt her. Then the 4 take their turns–they each have a “specialty”. One is into oral, one had a custom built vibe that he used, one was into her boobs, and one her ass. And they plan on torturing her until she completely surrenders to Matt.

OK then, that is a lovely, romantic way to declare your love, don’t you think? Especially for a woman with no sexual experience? But, she seemed to enjoy herself after some initial tears and wishing it would end.

There are a few reasons I couldn’t connect to this. It was told in 3rd person, in an almost detached, narrated way. Also, the story started with the crazy sex, and then she had some thoughts and flashbacks which explained their relationship a bit. Those flashbacks were the best part. They let me see the build up, my favorite part of any love story. But there were way too few flashbacks.

Likes:

-Hot, office sex.
-5 guys are better than 1!
-Well written.

Dislikes:

-There was none of the romantic build up and tension.
-Ridiculously over-the-top.
-3rd person narrative.
-Regular price is too high for only 125 pages.

Rating: 2.5 stars 4.5 Heat

I would definitely try others by this author, but only if they are on sale. Many of my friends who usually love the same books as me, rated this in the 4-5 star range, but it didn’t do it for me. I had to force myself to finish it because I never got to care about the characters.

Eh.

The story was ok but I had some issues that kept this from being a good read for me. I didn't like how tying up Savannah came about. I would have been fine with it if there had been some mention to a previous time where she said she liked that or she'd be interested in trying it but nothing. Then as she was tied up he had the guys that usually are in meetings with him, but this time weren't, start sexually touching a tied up Savannah without so much as an 'ok' from her, and if I remember correctly she had a gag in her mouth so besides a couple noises she couldn't speak. Another issue I had was Matt, I didn't like that he manipulated her to show up at an office and without any build up just took charge and basically held her hostage not listening when she said 'no', all that made me very uncomfortable.

I'm fine with reading stories where there's domination, where one (or more) are tied up, where there are multiple partners, and where one party says 'no' and the other doesn't listen but I need safe words established, I need confirmation, before it all starts, that this is what they want to experience, not just 'I think they want this so I'm going to do it without asking'.

I could have really enjoyed this story but not the way it was presented.

I'm not sure if I didn't love this book for personal reasons or if it was the plotting. None of this was consensual despite Matt's insistence that it was. Having lived with a narcissist for 30 years, a woman being told what her emotions and thoughts are makes me really uncomfortable .

The end was too mushy and talkative.

I was introduced to my first Joey W. Hill book this past summer, and I told myself I would check out the other books she’s written. I decided to start with her Knights of Boardroom series and was not disappointed. Holy crap, Board Resolution was HOT!

My husband is used to me reading spicy books, especially since I’ve been reading them as long as we have known each other for over twenty-one years. I sometimes discuss the books with him, and I wish I could have gotten his reaction when I told him what Matthew (MMC) did to Savannah (FMC) in the boardroom of the Board Resolution. He was stunned by the idea of a special table that allowed Matthew to strap Savannah down and maneuver her around to do things with her.

Yes, you read that right. The MMC had the FMC strapped down in the boardroom, but not only did he have her strapped, but he also blindfolded and gagged her. He then brought four of his colleagues to have their way with her, with some exceptions in place. He trusted these men and knew they wouldn’t harm her but only bring her pleasure.

Many readers may consider it non-consensual what Matthew does to Savannah at the beginning of the book, strapping her onto the special table, which can move her around so easily. Savannah does fight back, and she voices her opinions about what is happening. She gives in to what is happening, even when Matthew tells her they can stop at any time, but she pushes through. There was an obvious connection between the two, and I loved Matthew, even though he may not be for everyone. He’s dominant and gives Savannah things she’s never experienced, especially in the bedroom or boardroom, in the case of this book.

I know some readers may find it unbelievable that Savannah is in her thirties and is still a virgin, but it’s possible. It’s just hardly written in romance books. Joey W. Hill does it in a way that I found believable due to how Savannah was groomed by her father to take over his empire once he passed away. She dated men but never gave in to love and went the extra step because of her father’s rules that had been ingrained in her head from childhood. It took a man like Matthew, who had been in love with her since he met her, to prove she deserved happiness, especially with him. He was giving her sexual experiences and introducing her to his world, which involved him being dominant.

It was obvious that Savannah was in love with Matthew and wanted to be with him, and she found the four men sexy, too, since she had known them for a while. I loved her reaction after everything ended, and she put Matthew in his place. His reaction was one I had been waiting for, and in the end, these two gave in to their desire for one another.

Another great book from Joey W. Hill, and this had to be one of the hottest books I’ve read. I look forward to the rest of the books in the series, especially since the men were introduced in this book with Matthew and Savannah.

Favorite Quote(s): “You’re going to come often and hard tonight. Not when you want to, but when I want you to, when each of these men wants you to, because that’s our will.”

“You have this overwhelming desire to surrender, to submit to a man strong enough to Master you. It’s like an aphrodisiac to the man who senses it. I know the exact moment I recognized it in you. It was a like a punch in the gut. Or a light bulb going on.”
