I got fleabagged (the last chapter is called it'll pass). There was not enough unproblematic life living and TOO MUCH TOXIC RELATIONSHIP WHO WOULD ENJOY READING THIS. This book made me so furious and upset and it was not at all advertised to be about this. I feel like the book itself wasn't recognising how horrible the relationship was, and I know it's from the victims perspective but it left me really confused. So much of it just horrified me and I hated every time they got back together. The humor was also very unfiltered and made me a bit uncomfortable at points. It framed non-monogamy really weirdly as well and didn't have any retrospective nuance about it. Also the protagonist comes out as a lesbian and doesn't make friends with a single queer person other than lesbians as far as I can tell.I need to learn not to hate read books and to just put them down.

A pretty decent book that is very VERY graphic - like needing to shut the book at look away with my mouth open graphic. My feelings on the book are a bit complicated and I found myself disagreeing with both major characters at times. The ending is drastically different to the majority of the book but in a good way which is vague but the only way I can describe it.

I found the characters highly problematic. I skipped pages 150-275. The last 15 pages redeem  half a star.

trigger warnings: non consent and dubious consent situations, sexual content, abusive relationships, cheating

The first five chapters of this book imply it's going to be a hilarious comedic romance instead it turns out to be a self discovery book revolving around an abusive relationship with hilarious elements that you feel bad for laughing at.
One point of contention in the plot is that a romantic partner is polyamorous and the main character has an issue with that. In certain situations it certainly could read as misrepresenting polyamorous relationships, maybe even villainizing. As an outsider to the community it didn't read as such because this was hundred percent more about the partner being a vile person when not getting their way instead of like...normalizing a poly relationship. Every subcommunity has their good and bad aspects and this book simply represents one of the bad aspects.
As long as you go into this book with the awareness that what is being represented isn't a reflection of the community as a whole or a statement on polyamory as a whole then you're good to go. It's well written, it's nuanced in its understanding of abusive relationships, and does a stellar job of indicating that the issue that is marked as "cheating" can be addressed by the MC  advocating for her needs in her relationship (with the explicit understanding that the relationship is abusive and therefore there are some exceptions to conflict resolution here).

Reads as a memoir of a woman that has a one night stand with a woman and realises she’s gay. This is closely followed with an intense and toxic relationship. I usually don’t love books that are character driven but I finished this in a day or two and I was so in it that as I think of it I have  some scenes playing out like a movie in my head.
