I hate to give a negative review, honestly. I know how much work, love, and passion an author puts into their story, but Gentle Warrior was just not for me.

My first biggest problem: the characters. Elizabeth, her hawk, and her two overgrown hounds from hell painted such a ridiculous picture for me that I wanted to laugh in the beginning of the novel. I thought it was so unoriginal and more like a caricature. This provides a big problem, because the minute Geoffrey sees Elizabeth on the hill, with her dogs, he is supposed to become infatuated by her, yet all I wanted to do was laugh at her ... you see my problem.

Things just got worse from there. I wasn't invested in Geoffrey or their relationship. You know a romance novel is not for you when you don't care weather the main couple 'make' it or not.

And then there's the plot. At least, there started out with a plot, the plot was rolling, then it just sort-of stopped. Which, leaves me to the rushed ending. It was almost as if the King snapped his fingers and the story was over, as all good romances end. It was dissatisfying. Frankly, the whole thing was. It took me two months to read solely because I couldn't find the motivation to continue.

I had high hopes, but unfortunately I did not buy into the story or the characters in Gentle Warrior, for that reason I would not recommend this book over other romance novels.

This book is my least favorite Garwood historical yet. Geoffrey is mostly an asshole of epic proportions. IMO, there is nothing endearing about a man who is emotionally abisive—even if it is “for her own good”. He was very aware that what he was doing was causing her much emotional pain, but how else was she supposed to learn?!?!!!?! IDK, maybe if you COMMUNICATED WITH HER she wouldn’t feel like she needed to take matters into her own hands. Asshole, I tell ya.

I also found that the suspense in this book was less than suspenseful. I know that this author is capable of churning out much better.

This is the first book I ever read of Julie Garwood; it was back in the early 1990s. It is the book that started me to read for fun. I own every one of her books and am rereading them. my early books are paper back and have been reread so many times they are falling apart, So I have bought them on amazon Unlimited kindle.

Not much to say...it wasn't great, it wasn't bad. It just was. Story was okay, a little shallow, and the characters were pretty much like those in most of Julie Garwood's books.
