Quiet portrait of a childhood spent in rural Manitoba during the 1930s told through a series of linked short stories. Beautiful prose with very vivid characters. My only complaint is that there would have been more! The stories mostly cluster when Vanessa, the main character is younger, but it would have been nice to see more of her teen years. Still, enjoyed the book overall and would recommend especially considering how quick a read it is.
